What others are saying

  • Blu-ray one the way out
My personal opinion is that ANY type of Disc media , is to soon die away. I believe the new media format, will be SD cards.Cheap to produce, easy to store, not subject to scratches, the only drawback may be young children swallowing them. Many players already support the cards, I think more will , in the future.
  • PS3, any PRICE SLASH for CHRISTMAS?
Clark, can you please find out for me and rest of America, whether PS3 will be coming down any more before Christmas?.being a single mom and a son who really wants one, I am looking at 300 plus dollars and chunk of my monthly expenses.plus some games, HELP!!
  • Blu-ray
Thanks Ron...playstation3 is the deal breaker for me...thanks again

  • No Blu-ray this year
I had a $78 Blu-ray box in my hands on black Friday--it would have been my first. Then I went to buy a Blu-ray movie or two, since I have none of those either. I saw the prices of the movies, and I put the Blu-ray box back on the shelf. Maybe I'll bite next year, but most likely I'll bite when the Blu-ray movie costs come down near DVD prices, or DVD movies disappear.
  • Recommend Playstation 3
I recommend getting a Sony Playstation 3 as the Blu-ray player of choice since it can:
    1) play blu-ray and dvd discs
    2) play network content like NetFlix
    3) play videos stored on your home computer such as windows xp, vista, or windows 7 using Windows Media player 11 or later with media sharing feature turned on (I'm not sure about Mac)
    4) play music (MP3s, etc.)
    5) display photos
    6) play playstation 3 video games
    7) browse the internet
    9) download video to rent or own directly to the playstation 3 from the Sony online store

With the recent price drop to $299 for the Playstation 3 Slim this has really enhanced the overall value for getting a Playstation 3 over any other Blu-ray player.

Look for the holidays bargain combinations which include an extra game controller and Blu-ray remote (optional) as part of the bundle, and they usually include Blu-ray movies and/or playstation 3 games as part of the bundle.

    Enjoy,
    Ron
  • Hooray for Blu-ray, but then what?
I like Blu-ray and have one of Clark's recommended BD players; however, I am all teched out financially. I will not recycle my large standard DVD library into Blu-ray versions; I will only add new Blu-ray releases to what exists now and then very sparingly due to cost.

I date back to the era of Betamax and 8-track tapes. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blu-ray? I can't afford to restart my entire movie and TV collection...again.
