Destination: Maui, Hawaii
Best deal found: We went for our 25th wedding anniversary. The best deal we found was a day on the Road to Hana - no charge

Submitted by: Jonathan H.
Destination: Egypt
Best deal found: Used local cab drivers instead of tour group. Our driver knew the best places to eat, best times to visit sites, kept the panhandlers away and found us great discounted deals on balloon and boat rides.

Submitted by: Gary M.
Destination: Giverny, France
Best deal found: This is part of Monet's Garden. Entrance fee is very nominal and the sites must not be missed. Only 1 1/2 hour north of Paris. Most beautiful in Spring (May).

Destination: Corfu, Greece
Best deal found: The food was wonderfully fresh & reasonably priced for Europe.

Destination: Rome
Best deal found: This picture was actual taken through a door keyhole. It is St. Peters in Rome. We found the sight by taking a personal guide because I had injured my ankle in a Scuba accident prior to our vacation. It was a great deal to use the guide for us since we didn't have to stand in lines and he showed us great sites like this Keyhole that had a perfect view of the church. Picture taken with Nikon D200 with Telephoto 200 Nikon lens.

Destination: Agra India
Best deal found:  In India, we could get a car for 3 days for $400 which included gas and a driver 24 hours a day...

Submitted by: Kristen K.
Destination: Ecuador
Best deal found: Bottled water was only 30 cents! Everything in Ecuador seemed pretty reasonable.

Destination: Laos
Best deal found: Although this particular town is becoming increasingly familiar with foreign faces, Laos is still in the very early stages of development so all costs are very low. The best deal was probably all of the free meals that the extremely friendly locals offered to us!

Submitted by: Justin Z.
Destination: Hallo Bay, Alaska
Best deal found: Airfare was reasonable given the length of the flight. Alaska has many scenes that remain etched in your memory for a lifetime.

Destination: Yellowstone Park
Best deal found: b4 going on a big trip-we look for jobs there-and we worked for 6 months for yellowstone. we took our 40 ft MH - at ten mpg (deisel) we need to think and plan ahead.. princess cruises offers free cruises to employees with two years service (seasonal 6 months). alaska and seattle. we are on our way to the keys shortly-all paid for. (tax rebate check-1200 dollars) we constantly travel-and so do some friends-mostly on someones nickel.

Destination: Puerto Rico
Best deal found: The airfare was certainly where we saw our savings. Airtran has just started flights to Puerto Rico and to entice flyers, the offered round-trip tickets at $99 each way (just a little over $200 with tax and fees). The picture is of some of the old castles in Old San Juan.

Destination: Mt. Katahdin, ME
Best deal found: Back in 1976, a friend and I celebrated the bicentennial by hiking the Appalachian Trail, 2100 miles. It took 123 days, I lost 28 lbs and it only cost $600.00 for a summer of memories (and blisters). In the background is Mt. Katahdin, the terminus of the AT.

Destination: Mexico City
Best deal found: Staying with friends in various cities.

Destination: Orlando, FL
Best deal found: This was taken at GatorLand in Orlando, FL and I'm terrified of Snakes!!

Destination: West Point Lake, GA
Best deal found: RV CAMPING. We have camped at multiple Army Corp Parks. 18 bucks a night and a beautiful view made this one of the best vacations ever. West Point Lake is alot quieter than some other lakes in GA. I loved the camp hosts and the accessibility to Atlanta.

What others are saying

  • "keyhole" snap from Rome
Can you tell us where that is ? I guess I could use Google Maps and triangulate it.
I was sent to Rome for business and took the family . I would go back anytime. I always remember the North African guy selling wooden giraffes to tourists . He had a runny nose a special sales technique. He quoted a price and once the giraffe was in our hands ... indicated we it was more and we misheard the first price . What the heck, we now have the giraffe and the story to tell !
  • Maui Swan
How absolutely beautiful - the whiteness and graceful cut of the feathers. Was just reading about diving in Maui this a.m. and then this...I must go now! Thanks for sharing.
  • Puerto Rico picture by Todd R.
The picture is taken from the east side of El Morro castle. I was stationed there with the Army in the 3 story buildings in the background.

This week's poll
The high cost of jet fuel has a lot of people staying at home this summer instead of traveling. Is there a "staycation" in your immediate future?
Yes, I just can't afford a plane ticket and/or hotel room right now.
No, I've saved up all year just to get away for a bit.
Maybe, I have to wait and see how my finances pan out.
