Best deal found: Photo of Ukrainian Cat Woman Reading A Poster! Fantastic Old World City where EVERYTHING is so cheap by USA standards. A visit to the famous Kyiv Circus was about $7 a ticket and the show was super. A ticket to the famous Kyiv Opera was also under $10 a ticket.

Best deal found: In Blaye (north of Bordeaux), we found a place to fill pretty much whatever you were will to carry in (i.e 2-liter bottle, etc.) with excellent wine for 1.5 euros. Unbelievable, if you like wine, of course. Jim

Best deal found: Whew... deals, none really... not with the current exchange rate. It was brutal on the pocketbook, but a worthwhile experience for me and my 10 year old son. Pic is from the American GI cemetery in Normandy. What a moving experience.

Destination: New Zealand
Best deal found: We got a great deal on Air New Zealand in business class. Here is a shot of a black sand beach on the west coast of the north island near Auckland.

Destination: Cozumel, Mexico
Best deal found: Everywhere i went, the locals were wanting 50 dollars for this, 60 dollars for that. Well, with a little bargaining and sticking to my guns, the wife and I got everything we wanted at about 25% of the original asking price. Of course, there were lots of freebies on the Carnival inspiration that we took advantage of. This picture I sent you was between the Carnival Inspiration and Royal Caribbean Liberty of the Seas. It is such a breathtaking view of two great ships, side by side, looking like skyscrapers on the sea.

Destination: Alberta, Canada
Best deal found: This is Lake Louise 30 minutes from Banff, Alberta. Canadian dollar is about par now, but the real deal is food/hotel values. If you think this place is beautiful, go to Lake Moraine (just next door) and watch your socks go up and down.

Destination: St. Augustine, FL
Best deal found: This was at Fort Matanzas National Park outside of Saint Augustine. No fee to enter the park and my daughter loved climbing in the trees.

Submitted by: Jade P.
Destination: London, England
Best deal found: Not a lot considering the exchange rate was $2 per GBP!

Submitted by: Mary K.
Destination: London to board the QE2
Best deal found: We were off for a cruise aboard the nostalgic QE2. The airfare from Atlanta thru the cruiseline was $99. Great deal! What was better was the $800 in vouchers (each) given when we gave up our seats on the return flight which had been overbooked. That's a DEAL! Another plus was the rarely raised Tower Bridge.

Submitted by: Gary S.
Destination: Costa Rica
Best deal found: Casa Ridgway Guest House. Extremely inexpensive Private and Shared Rooms with breakfast included.

    its fun...i enjoy it...yay
  • Benton Island, Indonesia
    Hi Stephanie,
I used to live in Indonesia and my husband is Indonesian. But I have never heard of Benton Island, Indonesia. Can you tell me where that is?
  • European River Cruises
Last Christma I cruised from Budapest, through Vienna, Passau, Melk, Linz, Regansburg, to Nuremberg then we took motor coach into Prague. It was a wonderful trip of 12 days for $2800 on Amadeaus Waterways. I got to see all the Christmas Markets and Decorations; they are very different from what we use here. It was interesting to see the Danube Canal and know that it was started in the days of Charlemagne (did spell correctly but here is no spellchecker her) and was not finished until the 1990's. We passed through 26 lift lock dams and passed the European Continental Divide. It is a fantastic trip for anyone who is afraid of cruises (I'm not) since the Danube at it's deepest is only 3 meters and the boat is 6 meters, so if it were to take on water, just walk up to the top deck where you will stay nice and dry. No sea sickness either since the river is controlled water. The cities were fantastic and this boat allows you to get up close and visit the city without having to travel by bus. We did take buses to some of the sites (Melk Abbey) and the boat went on without us. We then met up with the boat after our tour. Most of the tours (all but 2) were included in the cost of the cruise so you were not being nickled and dimed all day. Best of all, as much of the Red or White Wine from each of the regions or country we visited were served free with dinner. I got to try many that I will never see in the USA since they are small vineyards that don't export. It was absolutely the best cruise I have ever taken. There were approximatley 150 people of all ages (youngest was 10 month, but I suggest they be at least 10 years old) and we had one dinner seating, but you could sit where you chose. I ate almost every dinner with someone new. We had people from New Zeland, Australia, Scotland, Ireland, England, and all over the US. There were 8 single women and 10 single men on the cruise. Amadeaus is a fairly new company and all their boats are new, with WiFi, flat screen TVs, great bathrooms, plenty of storage, and English television. The in boat television told you about the next town or next days tours. Most of the Rooms have French Balconys so you can reach out and touch the dock, lock, and dams as you pass. You see people walking on the river banks just 50 to 100 feet away and they all wave. I'm ready to go again. I plan to take the Paris to Amsterdam trip this year. 4 nights in Paris, the motor coach to the town of Tier and onto the boat. I'll let you know how it goes.
  • for Tim L. re: Arches State Park - VW rental
Tim, where did you rent your vw camper from? I am looking to rent a vw camper too. THANKS!
  • Security Code
Suggest adding a "can't read the secuirty code" option that allows users to play the letters and hear them instead of reading them. That might make it easier for some of the older viewers, like me who have toruble seeing those tiny letters and numbers. Enjoy the photos.

This week's poll
NYC health inspectors have been handing out violations to chain restaurants that don't post calorie counts on their menus. What's your take on this?
I believe in what the inspectors are doing. Long live the food police.
This isn't a legitimate function of gov't-paid employees.
I couldn't care less. I'd be eating at home to save money!
