Here are some additional green tips that can help you save money:

• According to the U.S. Department of Education, for each 5 mph driven over 60, it costs about 20 cents extra per gallon of gas. (6degreechallenge.com)
• Even when turned off, electronics like cell phone charges, DVD players and televisions spew 18 million tons of CO2 into the atmosphere annually. Unplug them and save up to $256 annually. (climatecrisis.net)
• According to the EPA, if every U.S. household replaced one traditional light bulb with a compact flourescent one, people would save $600 million nationally in utility bills. (climatecrisis.net)
• Just by using a programmable thermostat, you can save about 1,800 pounds of CO2 emissions a year and about $100 a year in energy costs. (AOL Research & Learn)
• A family of four can save up to $2,000 each year by avoiding individual-serving-size products at the grocery store. Not only will you save money, you also can save waste from the additional packaging. (earth911.org)
• Using public transit, carpooling, walking or using other alternate transportation one day a week will save $125 each year and 1,000 pounds of CO2 emissions. (stopglobalwarming.org)

This week's poll
NYC health inspectors have been handing out violations to chain restaurants that don't post calorie counts on their menus. What's your take on this?
I believe in what the inspectors are doing. Long live the food police.
This isn't a legitimate function of gov't-paid employees.
I couldn't care less. I'd be eating at home to save money!
