Jan 21, 2010 -- Amigram offers free online announcements

Looking for a new way to let people in your life know about a special event? Amigram.com is a free service that lets you create online announcements for engagements, weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, births, graduations and more.

Amigram is like "e-mail on steroids," according to our executive producer Christa. You can post videos and pictures of an event, such as getting a new puppy, and let people comment on them. It's that level of interactivity that is the key. This free service is supported by Google ads.

Clark recently read a story about how the Internet and social media allows us to reconnect with peripheral players in our lives from long ago. Some people are even getting in touch with others to apologize for incidents that may have taken place 10 or 20 years ago!

Unfortunately, Clark won't be able to answer any questions submitted via commenting. If you have a question, please try posting it to our message boards.

I've used Amigram multiple times - it's really fun. I made one for my aunt's 80th birthday and sent it to all her friends and our relatives. It was fun for all the cousins to post comments. They also learned alot about her from the different pictures they hadn't seen before. We couldn't all be with her but she knew her big event was remembered. And she was thrilled to tell her friends she was on the internet!
  • Amigram is really cool - different
Amigram is a really cool site. It was fun sending an announcement about my new puppy; also fun to see the other amigrams - especially the pet announcements.
  • Quick and Easy
I used it to make an announcement for my website. They let me add tons of info, pictures, video, and even links to my site. Hard to find free adverstising like this.

I also used it to make an announcement for my new nephew when he was born. It allowed me to upload my address book in just a few seconds and send to to my family and friends.
    Worth the trip!
  • I dig it.
I have used Amigram several times and love the site. If you don't want people to see your announcement, just choose to make it private. Only the friends and family you send it to will see your announcement.
Amigram basically did what craig's list did to the local newspaper classifieds. They put them online and made them free. It's a great service. Why pay over $100 for an engagement announcement in your local paper when you can do it here for free?
  • No reason to be scared.

  • Amigram Scares Me!
With all of the cyber-stalkers, shadow stalkers out there this is just another avenue for them to operate from.

My family has experienced first hand being stalked by a stalker (1998 to 2003) and a cyber-stalker (2007 to present).

Cyber-stalker often boost how they are "webmasters", have control over a computer (self employed, boss of a company, student or unemployed) with unlimited time on their hands to surf the web.

In our case, we had to hire an Private Investigator, an attorney to deal with the problem.

And this is a family with: No Face Book pages, No My Space pages,No instant messaging, or texts, we never post under our own emails, or real names.

Yet, it didn't take much for someone to surf the web, and attempt to impersonate us!
