Sep 30, 2009 -- Wal-Mart pricing 100 popular toys at $10 for Christmas

MONEY-SAVING MOMENT: Christmas just got a whole lot cheaper as Wal-Mart has announced they'll price 100 different popular toys at $10 each.

This is a departure from prior years when Wal-Mart had knockoffs of name-brand toys priced at $5, $10 or $15. This year you'll see popular toys from Lego, Nerf, Tonka, Barbie dolls, the Littlest Pet Shop and more.

Clark suggests it might be wise to buy Christmas toys earlier rather than later if you're able to this year. Not sure what the hottest toys of 2009 will be? HotToys2009.com lists them by retailer and availability.

When it comes to the electronics category, many video game systems will be priced at $199 during the coming holiday season. Several discount retailers will even be bundling games with the purchase of a system at $199.

And this week marks the kickoff of the holiday sales season for cell phones. If you're cell phone is on the fritz, Clark suggests buying a used cell phone on eBay to serve out your sentence (ahem, contract) and then go to one of the new no contract plans.

Unfortunately, Clark won't be able to answer any questions submitted via commenting. If you have a question, please try posting it to our message boards.

What others are saying

  • ebay phones
I bought my last 3 cell phones from ebay all without any issue and no contract with my cell provider. all the phones work great the last one I paid $70 and have had it for 2.5 years dropped it down stairs ... buy form a top ranked seller....
  • ebay cell phones
I have had mixed success when buying cell phones on ebay. The ones sold as "new" are invariably knockoffs and not worth the money as they will have a combination of quirky problems or have poor quality materials and the phones will not last long. If the phone is advertized as "unlocked", it will in all likelyhood be a knockoff. Avoid them.
On the other hand, buying from private parties I have had decent luck getting good quality used phones. You can generally spot them by the fact that they are locked to a specific network. After you get them, if you want you can have them unlocked. I prefer finding a used locked phone for the network I will be using.
  • Ebay Phones
I have bought phones off of ebay for years and have never had a problem. Its all about picking your battles and buying one from someone who is trustworthy.
  • Kids.Woot.com
Even better that Wal-Mart is kids.woot.com . Every day they offer 1 item that is 40% or more less than any other site. I have already purchased all of my kids Christmas presents.
  • DO NOT BUY CELL PHONES ON EBAY
Unless you want a pirated or stolen cell phone. Also bait and switch is quite common as well.

There are other methods to obtain a new phone without having to resort to eBay and 9 times our of 10 they are much much cheaper.
