There's a disturbing trend in modern American life where we're all too willing to wait for others to solve a problem. It's the "not in my silo" mentality found in corporate America.
But
we are the help we're looking for.
The Wall Street Journal reports that two Best Buy employees who tackled a shoplifter were fired because their actions violated company policy. Their actions put them at great risk. The perpetrator pulled out a knife and stabbed a manager before ultimately escaping.
Clark could understand if the employees were retrained, but to be fired? That seems unthinkable to him. He believes Best Buy only has this policy in place because they're scared of litigation.
Our producer Kim calls Clark a vigilante. After all, this is the man who chased down his own mugger on a Madrid subway train during a staff trip to Spain. Clark admits that what he did was "really stupid" because he could have gotten injured or worse. But his natural instinct just took over and he recovered his wallet.
While Clark was protecting his wallet, here we have two people who were unselfishly protecting company assets. The consumer champ believes Best Buy is sending a terrible message by firing them. What do you think?
