May 28, 2009 -- Clark's beloved Triple E PC saluted by Consumer Reports

Back in 2007, Clark was wowed by a tiny computer called the Asus Triple E PC. This "netbook" laptop was the size of a book and only weighed a couple of pounds. However, some of our show's staffers who used it found it to be clunky first-generation technology.

Now Clark's beloved netbook is being saluted by the June issue of Consumer Reports. An updated version of the Triple E PC ($330) makes a list of their selected best buys.

The netbook phenomenon has really caught on and there are a number of manufacturers in the market. $300 is a standard price point, though Clark expects that price will dip as low as $100-$175 by Christmas.

Unfortunately, Clark won't be able to answer any questions submitted via commenting. If you have a question, please try posting it to our message boards.

  • re: the Lenovo S10
After owning and being very happy with a Lenovo T400, I also bought an S10 for my wife. For the price, and knowing Lenovo's outstanding quality ( never had a problem with 2 other of their laptops, can't recall which models..., but they served well, even after my kids got to it too many times, and dropped it on hardwood floor 2 or 3 times), so I figured I can't go wrong..My wife has been very happy with it since purchasing earlier this year. Just need to keep the kids away

My computer tends to slow down and it is only a year old. What absolutely free on line downloads can I do to free up and speed up?
  • Lenovo
I purchased a Lenovo S10 with a 160gb HDD and 2GB RAM for $299 for my wife. For an internet computer and simple word processing it is the best machine she could have
  • EeePC 901
This is an amazing piece of equipment. I have the Linux version which includes all the software I could ever use - FREE! I also have the SSHD (solid state Hard Drive) $ Gigabytes devored to the operating system and the applications, 16 Gigabytes free space. I added an 8 Gig SDHC chip to act as drive "D" and bumped the memory up to 2 Gigabytes. It is an awesome little package. If people realize this is not a "production machine" and accept its limitations which are fully balanced by its attributes, they will be happy with it.

I saw one for sale on Woot.com for about $150 recently.
  • Do you know who will have the Netbooks for under $200.00?
  • Netbook
My MSI Wind has been wonderful at the hospital. I use it while my wife has chemo. I tried the Samsung, but it would not connect to the Net. Go figure a Netbook that will not connect to the web.
