Dec 05, 2008 -- Shopping for cheap prescriptions

Several months ago, Clark's allergist wrote him a prescription that contained 10 pills at a cost of $11/pill. After the pharmacist revealed the total cost, Clark nearly needed to visit the emergency room when he fell down and hit his head!

Meanwhile, The Boston Globe reports there's a new dispenser called the GlowCap that flashes and makes noises to remind you to take your medication at a certain time. The GlowCap is currently selling for $29 on Amazon.

Unfortunately, Clark won't be able to answer any questions submitted via commenting. If you have a question, please try posting it to our message boards.

What others are saying

  • Rx drugs
If you do have to take a medicine that is not on a generic plan, it is much cheaper to buy it at an independent pharmacy rather than one of the chains.
  • Rx,s
What can help me with the cost of meds? i am on medicare and have a D drug plan. I was diagnosed with cancer in July and went through the donuthole and still had fees for drugs. This is such an inadequate plan. what can be done/ tHANKS. JOY Shepherd
  • Cheap perscriptions
My dad is on medicare and signed up for Humana. If you get most generics through their mail order 3 month quanities at a time they are FREE. Not $10 for 90 days FREE.. WOW.. what a deal. It is a little bit of a hassel and some perscriptions like sleeping pills they only do 30 days but he takes mostly generic blood pressure and diabetics perscriptions and this is great. Just wanted to pass this on.
  • Thanks i saved a bundle
3 out the 4 meds i take were on K marts plan , i will save over 30.00 a month thanks to your suggestions. Once more your a genuis.
  • I make $$ on drugs
Fill you initial prescription at any drug store, transfer to RiteAid and get $30 gift card. That pays for $5 copay for refills for 6 mos.
  • Ralph's, Walgreen's and Riteaid
Ralph's has 90 days for $10, Walgreens has 90 days for $12 (but you have to buy a $20 membership) for certain generics, and Riteaid will give you $30 to transfer your prescription.
