Nov 14, 2008 -- The Peek can be a poor man's Blackberry

Looking for a "poor man's Blackberry"? Try the Peek, an e-mail/texting device available at Target and online for around $79. There's also a $20 monthly fee for unlimited e-mail/texting service.

If you have a teen that is eating up your wallet with texting, the Peek could present a solution. While the Peek is targeted to a younger market, Clark also thinks the device's ease of use would appeal to senior citizens.

In related news, the latest polling shows that people are generally opposed to fellow passengers using cell phones on planes. Who among us hasn't sat next to someone yapping on a handset?

Britain has come up with an interesting solution to the problem. In the U.K., all trains are required to have quiet cars where cell phone chatter and other loud noises are banned. To make sure no one violates the quiet car rule, they've put a film on the windows to blocks cell signals!

Unfortunately, Clark won't be able to answer any questions submitted via commenting. If you have a question, please try posting it to our message boards.

What others are saying

  • texting with Peek
Apparently texting was just added in December 08. On Dec. 14, our Target store did not show texting as a feature on the product packaging and was still selling Peek for $99 price. So be careful buying old versions.
  • Peek ot IPod
Researched Peek and IPod with the following conclusion: Peek is $100 + 20 per mon. IPod is $140 and delivers email with no monthly cost. The con on this topic is that you need to be in range of Wi-Fi to get your email with IPod. On the other hand, IPod does soooo much more!
  • textiing on Peek
It appears from the web site that you can email to another email but you can't text to a cell phone, tha makes its it much less versital
  • peek
It does NOT say anything about texting in the ad.
  • the "Peek"
"If you have a teen that is eating up your wallet with texting".. Make your teenager pay for it themselves!
