Sep 05, 2008 -- Free credit score now available online

Thanks to Clark's efforts, many people know that you can obtain your free credit report at AnnualCreditReport.com. Don't go to FreeCreditReport.com. They may have great jingles, but you should avoid them like the plague!

Now several websites will also give you your credit score for free -- in the hopes that you'll buy other products and services they're pushing. Of course, there's no obligation to buy anything.

Quizzle.com is one site that Clark used to get his Experian score. Please note that this score is different than the official FICO score. (Editor's note: Quizzle.com is owned by Quicken Loans.)

A couple of other free competitors that Clark hasn't tried out yet include CreditKarma.com and Credit.com.

Unfortunately, Clark won't be able to answer any questions submitted via commenting. If you have a question, please try posting it to our message boards.

What others are saying

  • quizzle.com
quizzle is great. free credit "score" and profile as well as lots of interesting information regarding your home value, budget habits, mortgage info. all packaged in an easy for read and follow format. very impressive, thanks clark for the tip.
  • Credit Karma free credit score
Credit Karma reports my credit score with the source as being Transunion. Further, you can update it daily after logging onto the site. No annoying emails yet. Am satisfied with the service.
  • Quizzle
Tried it loved it. Gave me my credit score and report in an easy to read format with no guessing. Let me dispute right there. It also pulled all my information into a budget. GREAT.
I paid the $5.95 to get the horrible credit score also!
  • OOPS! I went to FreeCreditReport.com
I didn't realize Clark was instructing me NOT to go to FreeCreditReport.com...I then clicked on TransUnion options and I couldn't recall old address info to verify that I am me! SO then I went to Experian and had no problem until I saw the junk appearing on my report. I am most likely a "bad credit or no credit" consumer since I was 18 and have not yet fixed all the irresponsible purchases. I have 4 items appearing on the current report...I contested them all. One may be a possible lien on a joint vehicle loan from 1997 but the item appears as actively filed w/ courthouse as of 2007. Last I heard, the cosigner had paid the debt off---so is this a double whammy? Debtor attempting to get paid out twice for one debt?
  • Quizzle & Credit Freeze
Quizzle won't work if you have frozen your credit with Experian.
  • Quizzle
I used Quizzle after hearing about it on Clark Howard. That worked I have a score in the 700's- but since then I have been inundated with emails re loans and credit enhancing schemes
  • https://www.quizzle.com/
I went out to Quizzle and I asked about it updating my credit score and they only allow a new one every six months. I had signed up back in May. Still it is free so I guess I can't complain too much :)
  • credit score
If the score you get is NOT the official FICO score, then what is the point? Why can't you get the official FICO score?
  • fico
just get them to give us an annual free fico scorecr
  • HELP WITH CREDIT REPORT
I have just submitted information for free credit report; have done something wrong? How long does it take to receive an answer?
  • Information on Life Insurance
I am now 74 and am now having difficulty with the insurance companies that I have been dealing with for years. My premiums are not covering the cost of keeping the insurance and I now have to pay extra. Some of the premiums have doubled.

  • Credit Karma Confused
Unsure how to compare apples to apples on the 3 sites. Quizzle states the score is from Experian (and gave me 840). Credit.com just gave me an 'estimate' of 832 but it's not from one of the three bureaus. Credit Karma gave me 781 but didn't say where the score came from. I know my FICO is over 800 so Credit Karma makes no sense to me. All were easy to use though and didn't try to push any products.
  • credit score
creditkarma worked like a charm. other blogs recommend creditkarma as well.
  • free credit report
I went to the first of the free reports and did not get free,,,,,,, it showed a 750 , but ask for 7.50 cents to get our true one,, we have no debts, own our house and no bad credit ever, so not worried , but was curious about maybe some one using our name etc. anyway, they are not Free , Howard...
I listen to you a lot at night , enjoy your information.. but not this one ,,,,,,, its not free...
