Jun 26, 2008 -- Sounding the death knell for Clark's beloved Steve and Barry's
We're sad to report that we may soon have another addition to the graveyard.
This is an unfolding story involving Clark's beloved Steve and Barry's. This innovative clothing retailer has been running an $8.98 or less promo on hip, fashionable threads for several months now.
Steve and Barry's got popular on the strength of their cheap prices and celebrity fashion lines. But they expanded too quickly throughout the United States, which may partly account for their impending failure. The Wall Street Journal and other sources report a bankruptcy announcement may come within a week.
Clark thinks it's a shame.
They were one of the only viable options for cheap and ultra hip sneakers. Steve and Barry's Starbury sneakers -- the signature shoe from NBA player Stephon Marbury -- sold for a mere $14.98. Compare that to upwards of $200 for a pair of Air Jordans!

There's a website claiming a small mod on your car will allow you to double your gas mileage by using water. I'd like to see someone prove this one!
I bought a pair of Starburys
I bought a pair of Starburys a while back after reading about them on Clark's website. I lost a shoe, so I went recently and bought another pair. They were 15 dollars the first time and 8.98 this time. I don't understand how a company can stay in business charging 8.98 for a pair of shoes. It is weird how some things like shoes can sell for less than 9 dollars and a night in the hospital can cost 20,000 dollars.

I've would like to know if you are familiar with this technology(converting your car from gas to water. I see a lot of info on the net, but I don't know anyone who has actually used this technology. I'm intrested if it's for real.
Steve and Barry catered to the working class family. I am disappointed to hear the news and I hope that they can turn things around. Considering that the country is in a "ressession", it is comforting to shop were you can make the all mighty dollar stretch.

The last couple of times I went to Steve & Barry's, they didn't have tennie pumps in my size, among other things, much less in my size in the particular model in which I was interested. They just weren't meeting the customers' expectations, even for a "budget" store; that's the reason they're going bankrupt.
