May 29, 2008 -- Corporate America borrowing from Clark Stinks?

The Clark Stinks forum -- where you can vent if you take issue with something the penny-pinching guru says -- is one of the most popular parts of our website. Clark was motivated to launch this message board when he noticed people registered domain names with "colorful" words attached to his moniker.

He quickly realized that people shouldn't have to leave his website to tell him he's lousy.

The start of Clark Stinks was not without controversy in the world of radio. Why would a host want to invite negative views of what he does? Clark has always believed talk-radio hosts have inordinate power because they're able to silence critics at the push of a button. But there's really no reason why they should have the last word.

Now a variety of companies are catching on to Clark's idea. The Boston Globe reports that Bank of America has its own online review section. Other companies doing the same thing include Starbucks, Dell and Ford.

The culture of American business almost dictates that we should have a difficult time responding to criticism. Not so in Japan. Executives over there have been known to apologize to the Japanese people in very public and ceremonial ways when they make blunders.

So now that corporate America is going the Clark Stinks route, Christa thinks we may have to post Clark's cell phone number on the website to stay one step ahead of the pack. That'll be the day!

Unfortunately, Clark won't be able to answer any questions submitted via commenting. If you have a question, please try posting it to our message boards.

What others are saying

  • n.p. s
if when you go to a drs. office, tou have never seen the dr. and have always seen a p.a. or n.p., make sure you see an M.d. every third visit at least, depending how bad tour condition is. look at their name badges to see who and what you are seeing
  • nurse practicioners
clark; nurse practicioners DO NOT have the same training, education, experience, or TAKE THE SAME licencing tests as M.D.s Now, some drs. I know scare me!!! But I've seen the results of n.p.s that scare me more!! Recently I went to a national 4 day meeting in Ft. Lauderdale. Almost 1/2 of the attendees were N.P.s. 2/3 of them were older; the other 1/3 were so young that they looked like they should be on their college football cheerleading team!! A girl/woman can graduate from high school, go to a 3-yr nursing school and become a R.N., then go to an additional 2 yrs. to become a N.P. and then are put into the medical trenches. Compare that to my education--4 yrs. collegee, 4 yrs. medical school, 5 yrs. residency, 3 yrs. Army med corps (even though the draft was over). And some dr.s have more training than I! I really do like your shows advice to listeners. m. podobnikar m.d., stockbridge, ga. 30281
  • Cobb EMC - Cobb Energy
One of the biggest ripoffs of the citizens of Georgia is when Cobb EMC, a nonprofit co-op, created a forprofit entity Cobb Energy. Dwight Brown CEO of Cobb EMC created the forprofit company just so he could bypass the state regulations and increase his salary to over 1.6 million. Cobb EMC has a monopoly and the consumers of Cobb EMC can't do anything. Several members is suing Cobb EMC.
Your radio screener says you won't talk about local situations. Your volunteers don't know anything about the problem and hangs up when pressed.
I admired you when you took on Bank America for thier wrong doing.
Please take on Cobb EMC and Dwight Brown.
    Thank you.
  • EEE-PC
    Dear clark,
You smell like a rose for telling us listeners about the EEE-PC. I bought one and I love it! HOWEVER... You stink in that you gave us the impression that it is a "child's toy" and you couldn't do anything beyond what was already installed. This is simply not the case! The EEE-PC is a powerhouse in a small package. You can whipe the drive and install Windows XP on it- instructions are included on how to do this. it will also run serious applications like AutoCAD and other programs. It is loaded with useful built in hardware and is small enough to slip into a back pack. The only real drawback is the 2 gig drive it comes with- but you can expand that with an SD card or an external drive. $300 for a lap top that can do all this is a real bargain.
  • B of A Feedback / Time
I just checked out the Bank of America Feedback site. The best thing about it is that you have to sign into Online Banking so if an associate posts a comment you can see right there that it was made by an associate. There's no way to get around it because as an associate their ID and comment is automatically flagged! Also keep in mind that the time they are telling is the "correct" time. It's just not the full time. If they gave the full time in my area it would always be incorrect as Clark's show is delayed by 5 hours.
  • Vernon's post
Vernon, the reason the time is given by minutes after the hour is because Clark's show is broadcast at varying times by stations throughout the country. He may be live in Atlanta, but the show is broadcast two hours later in my city.
  • clarification on comcast exclusivity
to clarify part of my last comment, comcast exclusivity is in hardwired pay tv delivery, not total pay tv exclusivity (we have satellite competition to comcast for pay tv).

I think comcast may be in the local politicans' pockets, so we may never see U-VERSE or FIOS, etc. in this town to compete with them and the comcast area SVP doesn't seem to want to be forthright to admit that!
  • Comcast monitoring the internet
Comcast doesn't seem to have a "Comcast Stinks" forum, but they do seem to be monitoring some internet places to find out what people are saying about them and then they reply with promises that they are improving service.

Time will tell how effective it is. A comcast SVP posts on my city's blog hangout site, yet when I ask a question to him why Comcast seems to be an exclusive pay tv provider in town, he says their franchise is not exclusive, gives me a link to a company competiting with them for delivering internet, and then is seemingly quiet when I ask him again about pay tv and not internet exclusivity. It doesn't sound like they want to be open with potential customers (me) and it may even carry through to a "facade" of hanging out on the internet with promises of improving their really poor customer service marks but in reality it's all talk and no action.

as for the time (first comment of this show note), it's because Clark's show is syndicated and doesn't air at the same day or hour everywhere (so clark has to leave the hour off when he gives a timecheck).
  • Telling Time
Why do you (and numerous other media personalities) never give the correct time during a time spot? IE: "It's fourteen after the hour." What hour?? If it is 9:14, then say "it's nine fourteen. I am a mechanic and each time you give a time spot, I have to look at a clock or my watch to know the correct time. Often I am trouble shooting a problem and it would be nice to just hear the correct time given. OR if you are the miser you claim to be, you may have bought your clock at a yard sale and it had no hour hand. I enjoy your show. Keep up the good work.
