Apr 18, 2008 -- Beware of phony long distance charges

Criminals after trying to reach your wallet through your phone bill again. 3rd party aggregators have been posting bogus collect call charges to phone bills issued by the monopolies AT&T, Verizon and Qwest. First, a little background: Let's say Clark's Collect Calling Phone Company decides to charge $5/min for a collect call made from a pay phone. His goal is to bill that charge to the recipient of the call. But first he has to find a billing company that -- for a cut of the action -- will take that charge and then go to a monopoly phone company and get it on the customer's phone bill. The monopoly, of course, also gets a cut for its role in the transaction. As bad as that sounds, at least it's a legitimate business model.

But the rotten thing is that some 3rd party aggregators have been issuing charges for calls that never took place. The FCC rightfully should have put a stop to this, but they've been sitting on their hands doing nothing about these fraudulent activities. So the FTC had to step in and fine the 3rd party aggregators. One company managed to steal $35 million from people with phony charges!

The real message here is that you've got to vet your phone bill page by page every month looking for bogus charges. Businesses are a major target because their phone bills can be pages and pages long. Shame on AT&T, Verizon and Qwest for aiding and abetting the criminals. The cop on the beat is asleep, so it's up to you. Call up your phone company and get a credit if you're stuck with a phony charge.

    I noticed my AT&T bill was higher than normal and discovered the following on my bill:

    We only use the phone number this was billed to for VOIP & reporting power outages. Since we don't receive calls on this phone the ringer is never on. No one else was home that day and I certainly didn't accept any collect calls. (Since the ringer was off I never heard the phone ring.) I don't know anyone who lives in Arizona, nor do I give that number out for anyone to call. Thus it's impossible that these are legitimate charges. I did a reverse search on the 520 number and learned it is a landline based in Tucson, AZ (Pima county) and is unpublished. The carrier is Qwest Corporation. I tried calling it about 1:50 today & it just rang & rang. The latitude and longitude listed can be seen by following this link:

    I called AT&T first and they told me I had to call TRSCN Clearing at 877-257-2455 since the charges were through them. Luckily I looked up their number online before calling. I called them about 1:30 pm today. The automated system had me on hold for a couple minutes. However, they must now be very aware of their problem. The lady answered and asked me for my phone number. She then asked if I had received a collect call on my bill (yes) and did I answer that call (no). She said she would credit the entire amount and that it would take 1-2 billing cycles. I asked for a confirmation number and she gave me one. I called AT&T back, told them I had called TRSCN Clearing & that I had a confirmation number for them. The lady recorded it and I verified that I should pay the total minus the collect call. She said that was correct.

  • Fraudulent Charge from Billwithus, Inc.
    I called Billwithus at 877 257 2455 which appears on my ATT bill. Each time I called I was asked by their phone software to enter my phone number. After doing so, I would get disconnected. I spoke to an ATT rep who told me they would dispute the charges and block my account for third party and collect calls.

    How many people are overlooking this charge on their bill and just paying these fraudulent charges? How much is ATT getting?

  • Slammed by a company called "Long Distance Depot"
    Had a charge from a company called "Long Distance Depot" started showing up on my AT&T bill. Called the company to cancel the service. Carrier claimed that the service change was initiated through the Internet so watch what people are asking you for when you go to different websites.

    Check those AT&T telephone bills people! I just got off the phone w/two 3rd party companies who's charges for $14.95 (PROTECTITTODAY, INC - ID theft) and $7.20 (BILLWITHUS, INC) appeared on my AT&T phone bill which I did not authorize. Both companies advised they would cancel the service and credit me but yeah right! I went ahead and emailed AT&T customer service asking them to block my phone from any 3rd party at no charge to me and also to recourse those charges back to the company and reduced the fraudulent charges from my bill! If this crap continues, I'm just going to cancel my phone number at home/bill totally, who needs a home phone when you have a mobile now a days!

    My AT&T bill came today and I was charged $16.00 for a collect call I never recieved. I contacted Billwithus--first call went to a fax, end went to a person, and explained that I have collect calls blocked on my account. They ignored this fact and said I must be mistaken because the call was placed and I have to pay for it. I called At&t and after they looked up my account they said they would remove the charge. This company is obivously a fraud, yet they exist.

    I received a $16.07 charge on my ATT bill from Billwithus, INC. After reading the comments on this websight, I realize that this company and it's charges are bogus. I called ATT and they immediately said they would take the charge off my ATT bill and charge it back to Billwithus. I may get a bill from them, but I'm not paying them, so I don't care what I receive from them...I will report Billwithus to the BBB and the FTC.     We got a $21 collect charge on our Sept bill from A T & T. Hubby called and they claim they would reverse the charge and asked him to call the other party involved, but all he got was numerous ringing followed by a recording stating no one could answer his call at the moment. Hubby also signed up to block all future collect calls. We will see next month if AT & T do their part.

    I was also billed $7.20 for a collect call on my AT&T bill while I was at work. I wonder how this company can justify this charge when I was not even at home to accept the charge. This is definitely fraud. I'm glad that I'm not alone being crammed by this scammer. Either FTC or FCC should yank the license out from this company, stop all billings through the local exchange company, and refund all those fraudlent charges which some consumers may not aware or don't have time to bother to complain on these small charges.

  • Slamming and Cramming
    I got repeated calls from supposedly "Internet Yellow Pages" to confirm our listing and when I asked why we kept getting the same call the lady asked me to go through a series of prompts where I would leave our information. After repeated assurances that my company wouldn't be charged, I agreed. We went through the prompts and on the last one, she asked me to say "Yes" but because of her talking over it I couldn't hear what the "robot" was asking, thus what I was agreeing to, so I asked her to have the robot repeat the question without her talking over it. The phone call was immediately disconnected.

    I received my bill from AT&T last month with one of these charges from Transaction Clearing, LLC, on behalf on BILLWITHUS, INC. After researching this charge, I called AT&T to complain about the charge and hoping that would be the end of it. First they told me that I would have to contact this 3rd party company, which I had to no avail. After much insistence on my part, they only offer to "flag" that charge and have it reviewed by their billing dept. I did not pay that charge ( I did pay the rest of my bill ). This month's bill shows the pending charge, now overdue. So AT&T has not done anything to resolve this at this point. I am planning on calling again *DURING NORMAL BUSINESS HOURS*, so that I can try to find someone that can help.

    I also received a fraudulent charge from 'Billwithus, Inc' made through the company 'Transaction Clearing.' I called 'Transaction Clearing' to dispute the charge and they said they would give a full refund. However I do not have full confidence this will happen given the experience of some other people here and the fact that this is clearly an unethical company. I also called AT&T to have the charge removed and they were very unhelpful. They refused to credit the charge or block charges from this company and simply refered me to the people who originally scammed me. How can this happen to so many people? Why aren't there regulations yet to prevent fraud like this?

    I had this charge on my AT&T bill from July. I called to complain since I know I never made the call. At first, I was told it would be removed. 2 months later, it was still there. I called again and spoke to a new person who caught that it was from billwithus. She said she would remove the charge, and that by doing so it will go back to them. If u have problems with them removing the entire amount, I suggest calling back and trying again. Good luck!

    On 09/16/09 AT&T statement show unauthorized charge $15.79 for USBI LLP. service. I don't now what this company doing and why this charge was add to my regular service with AT&T. USBI promise to put credit on my next statement after I call them. Then I call AT&T and ask to block my phone from third party billing.
    I think that this is ruing repotation of big company like AT & T.
  • Block collect calls on your phone
    I called a number on my phone bill, it was messaging service, and directed me to another phone number for BILLWITHUS. That number didn't go anywhere. So, I call AT&T. They took the charges off my bill after I said this was the 2nd time in 6 months that I had a collect called charge to my bill that never received. The customer service rep then said offer to block all collect calls at no charge. I asked them also why they are supporting BILLWITHUS service. AT&T said they are in compliance with their service agreement. I'll be looking into switching my service if the block doesn't work.

    Due to the notes on this page, I quickly determined that the $12 charge was a bogus charge. I called ATT and refered to this page and others, and without further questions they agreed to refund the full $12.00. Took me 5 minutes. That has to be a record!!!

  • Collect call charged on my father's phone bill from Billwithus
    My father asked me why his phone bill was so much higher this month than usual and I took a look at this bill and found a collect call charge on it for $14.40 plus tax which came to something like $15.56. I had my father's lady friend call AT&T to tell them that he never accepted a collect call from New Mexico. They said all they could do is credit 70% of the charge but no more. AT&T told him to pay the bill in full for now and they will credit him on the next bill or the one after that. I don't want him to pay any part of that charge, and I am going to call Billwithus myself and tell them they better credit that call. My dad won't even answer his phone unless he can see that the caller ID is someone he knows or is expecting a call from! He is also hard of hearing and there is no way he would accept a collect call and talk to someone he doesn't even know for 9 minutes! If I have to, I will look in to getting him phone services with another company instead of AT&T. I quit AT&T a while ago because they were charging a minimum of $10.00 a month for long distance service whether you used it or not! Honest! I told them to stick it.

    We recently had a charge of $12 for a collect call from BillWithUs we were supposed to have accepted. Neither my husband nor I accepted a collect call. In fact, we were out of the country! No one had access to our house. When we called the number, they were rude and threatened to report to the credit bureau if we didn't pay. They also didn't make it obvious that we were not talking to AT&T. When we realized we were not speaking with AT&T, we hung up and called AT&T. We were told by AT&T that their policy is not to do anything - we were expected to resolve it. We called back to the BillWithUs, informed them that we were out of the country and no one was at the house at that time, after not our not backing down and giving in to this phony business, they agreed to reverse the charges. As for us, we know that we pay a little more for AT&T than other services, but we believed we were getting more service. We've found that we are not and have moved to another service.

    Unfortunately we live in a country where losers can't get off their butts and work making an honest living, so they have to pin fony charges on good honest people... We were also a product of being charged for a collect call we never even made. Shame on AT&T for not protecting their customers. I have been an AT&T customer for 7 years and it saddens me that they are helping out the losers in our country. We are disputing our charges with this sole called Bill With Us, or should I say Losers are us.. Shame on them for not asking more information from their customers.. I guess it like their stupid saying, "its that simple", Simple for them since they are not the ones being billed these extra charges. I am reporting them to Better Bussiness Bureau as well as At&T. I will not rest until someone or something is done. I encourage you to report Bill With Us and your phone provider.

    Noticed this on an older statement since the amount was higher than normal. I got billed for a collect call I never accepted. I tried getting AT&T to credit the amount first but they wouldn't budge, even after asking to speak to a supervisor and threatening to disconnect my service. She claimed I could only dispute it with BILLWITHUS, which pissed me off. I shouldn't have to go chasing after other 3rd parties for fraudulent charges. But, I did anyway because I want my $10 back. I called BILLFORUS's 800 number and they immediately bounced me to another number. I got a hold of a non-native speaker and she tried to credit me first 50%, then 70% and when I kept pushing she approved 100% refund with her "supervisor". We'll see if it happens.     the collect call bill shows on company's AT&T bill. i call to ask for refund and the lady told me her company only offer 50% off. i spoke to her firmly and asked her full refund. she said yes right the way and asked my company's information, but i didn't give her. she repeatly to ask and i was very firmly to say no. finally, she gave me the cancelation confirm #. what the pain in the ass.... they should be arrested.

    We have also been hit by these "crammers" and wanted to add our 2 cents...or $7.38. Report it, report it, report it! As in any other case of abuse, the more information and complaints sent to our phone service providers and the FCC the better. Power in numbers...as they say.     We TOO were victimized by this BOGUS company. Along with their LUMP SUM, they've charged a lot of Junk Fees.

    Why are the major phone companies that we use for our home phones allowing these companies to add false charges onto our bills. When I spoke to my carrier and found out about these bogus charges, they then said they could put a block so that this won't happen again. Why aren't they blocking this from the beginning?
  • BEWARE - don't call the number at the top of your AT&T Bill
    If your charge is from BILLWITHUS,INC. and is listed on your AT&T bill, please do NOT call the number at the top of your bill (1-877-257-2455). This number takes you straight to TRANSACTION CLEARING LLC, not AT&T, and they will pose as AT&T for as long as you let them. It is only the 3rd time I called did I realize I wasn't dealing with AT&T at all.

    Use the 800 Number on the BACK of your AT&T Bill. Then complain to the supervisor. Then scan the bill and send it to the CA Public Utilities commission along with your complaint (www.puc.ca.gov). Then report all 3 companies to the FTC -- AT&T, BILLWITHUS INC., and TRANSACTION CLEARING, LLC.

    AT&T should not be dealing with this awful company (Transaction Clearing), and neither should my grandmother (who was charged).

  • I got so mad about Billwithus inc.
    I Got an -email from AT&T telling me that my montly bill is ready. But what surprised me was about a charge of $7.85 of a long distance call that I recieve from Phoenix AZ according to the bill, I called AT&t about it and then said they could separate it from my bill if I wanted, I said no let me investigate it wich I did and call BILLWITHUS they answer me by telling that they will blocke that number from my Phone # so I wont get another call from them. I decided to make some reseaches about BILLWITHUS I found that I wasn't the only one about this case thanks to those who have given their opinion about this companies on this website that helped me alot I decidet to call AT&T to talke that about from my bill,they easily took it aout cause I'm not going to pay those stealers for sure. But all thanks to you guys who have talk about it, I decidet to give mine too so that way I may incourage others to do the samething and best of all I reported to the Federal communications commission.

    Just saw my phone bill online and saw a charge from Transaction Clearing for an incoming collect call I did not receive nor accept. I did some research online and came upon many listings of how this was a fraudlent charge. I called Verizon right away and explained that I did not accpet the call and they were able to remove the charge easily. I was prepared to throw down over the phone, but was pleasantly surprise that they were able to help so painlessly.

    My husband came to me with our the bill and said who took a long distance charge.. we asked everybody at the house..NO ONE DID... So I looked up the company on line and your page came up with a few more saying the same thing.. I called AT & T.. they said I will refund you half.. I threatened to change my provider if they didn't remove it.. They did remove the full charge..     Our company just received a letter from "Media Telecom" in Wayne, NJ telling us they will be billing us (the "special price") $49.95/month for their "Deluxe Program" for our "Internet Profile" on our Verizon bill on the ILD page. (This after saying "per our telephone conversation of 6/12/2009, which is a lie because I would be the only one who they'd talk to and I didn't talk to them. Verizon told me that they, BY LAW, must allow these people to charge us on our bill. I can't believe that. We do have a block, but Verizon said that it might not cover every cramming that comes to us, but that they will take any charges off that we would get (after I threatened to cancel our account).Verizon also said that his department (numerous people covering only 17 states) are busy all day dealing with this! He also said that because of the lobbying money that the phone companies pay, this is why the government isn't doing anything. The company calls it a "cost of doing business" for Verizon's billing dept to deal with these scammers and crooks.

    I followed Steve and filed an online complaint with the FCC and with the Better Business Bureau. Please anyone else who finds this info, do the same. It takes a few minutes and it is ridiculous to have to work so hard to keep a company that you have been a good customer of from just stealing from you.

    Same story...$20+ phony collect long distance charge from billwithus...at&t will give you a credit for the amount if you ask to speak to a supervisor and mention that you have read all about the scam online...first they will encourage you to call billwithus, then they will say you dont have to pay it but they cant remove it from your bill...but if you ask to speak to a supervisor they will credit the amount...this hasnt actually happened yet but i have a supervisors name and a confirmation number for the credit and supposedly billwithus is blocked from being able to charge our line again...please pursue this...maybe it will become unfinancially viable for them to continue stealing from their own customer base...

  • Bogus Phone Charge
    I just got my bill for last month, this company is charging me 32.58 dls for a phone call from CO. I mean.. I don't even have a phone hooked to the line. I will call ATT tomorrow morning, i will not pay a penny for something i didn't use, i will cancel the service if i have to, i don't care if i have to pay a fee or something but i will not pay for a stupid false call.

    I received my June phone bill from ATT and it contained a charge from Billwithus. My first call to ATT did not satify me since they claimed they could do nothing about it. Googled the company name and read with anger what had happened to others. I called ATT again and threaten to drop them and was pushed up the line to a suppervisor who agreed to drop the charges after I mentioned this website. Thanks for the information; we can use it when dealing with ATT to get these phony charges removed from our bills.

    I am just another victim of an AT&T unauthorized third party billing by Transaction Clearing, LLC and their "BILLWITHUS.INC" front. Was billed $8.40 for a collect call to a FAX number in AZ!! Sharing of information by all of you has given me a track to follow in disputing the charge first and/or going to the California PUC if necessary. Thanks again!

    I received a $10.46 charge on my phone bill for a collect call from Arizona. The thing is, I do not have a actual phone hooked up to this phone line (because everyone in the family uses cellular phones and all we get are telemarketers, so we unhooked the phone). So it is impossible to agree to a collect call WITHOUT a phone. I called the number on the bill for that charge and they said that they could only give me a 50% credit and I was like WTF. I am not paying for a service that I didn't pay for or receive.

    This Billwithus, Inc. company uses the company Transaction Clearing, LLC to bill people through their Local Telephone Bill for Bogus charges. I'd just like to say to anyone who has been a victim of this, please call your telephone service provider and dispute the charge. Do not pay the extra amount!

    I just received my phone bill and I see I'm not the only one being scammed in this manner! I'm being billed $10.39 for a call to Longmont, CO which I never made. First of all, I don't know anybody in that city. But, I tell you what, you can be sure that AT & T is going to remove that bogus charge after I have a chat with them. I also filed complaints against AT & T and the scam company: "BILLWITHUS,INC." who charged me with this call. My complaints are now filed online with the CA Public Utilities Commission and the Attorney General of California. Don't fall for this - fight it and don't pay a penny! I'm going to tell all my friends and family about this criminal scam. Good luck everybody! Complain to your government agencies and tell your friends.
  • AT&T w/ Bogus Collect phone call charges...
    I just received my phone bill with a $16.79 charge for a collect phone call that was never recieved or made from Iowa that lasted 11 minutes. The AT&T reprenstative stated the call was made from Arizona when the bill clearly states from Iowa. The rep also stated the call was from Jan. 16, 2009 which was a Friday at 3 pm. When NOONE was home!! But these charges didnt show up until the May statement! My husband called this "collect" number on his cell phone and it was a fax machine...and listed on Google as a payohone...at a Drive In. Fortunatly, the representative is removing the charge from the bill. So I dont have to pay it. I wouldnt pay it anyway. It is such a shame that the government is sticking their dirty hands in the companys that matter to us and our beneficial to this economy but will not step in to these crooked companys that steal from us!

    I just received my phone bill from qwest today, billwithus is putting $12 on my bill for a collect call from CA, Industry City. we never had this call. Even we had a call like this, we always hang up immediately. Can you imagine someone can just bill you via your phone bill like that? It is like you suddenly find you owe somebody else's money you never know. Ridiculous!!!

    I received $23 on my ATT bill , a robbery charge from BILLWITHUS. I caled them , they gave me a confirmatin nr, anl later I called ATT to tell them the nr.
    DO NOT GET FOOLED by this procedure , witch is a robbery. DO NOT PAY !!!!

    I also received a phony charge from this company. I was able to get through to someone at Bill With Us. They offered me 40% credit, I told them I wanted a full refund or I was going to report them to the FCC. The guy "asked his supervisor" and returned very shortly to tell me the entire amount would be credited. I also called ATT and informed them. They said I have to file a seperate complaint with the FCC. I told them I was going to cancel my home phone service if they didn't do something to try and stop this. They are sending me a "slamming and cramming" form, they blocked 3rd party calls, collect calls, 976 calls, etc. from my phone. Hopefully it works. If not, I'm cancelling my service. I never had these problems with Vonage. This is too annoying.

    I was charged $8.40 by this company. I dont even have a ringer on my phone so I dont know when it rings, thus, I couldnt have received the call. I called AT&T and complained twice and they gave me a credit. I also asked them to block collect calls so I can avoid the problem all together.

    Received an additional charge of $22.04 on my phone bill this month from BILLWITHUS, INC in CA. Suspecting this was a fraudulent charge, I called them at 877.257.2455 and got an answer from a Chinese sounding rep. I explained to him the situation and after having given him my phone number he was able to refer to the charge. He tiold me that it was from a Collect Call received from CA on 3/23 at 9:21PM. I firmly explained to him that the house is present for 1 reason only - Internet. For example we made a total of 1 call last month from it, to show you how much we use it. The BILLWITHUS Rep offered me a 20% discount on the $22.04 charges, which I laughed at and started getting pissed. I told him that it was unacceptable, and that there was was no way I was going to pay $22.00, $2.00 or even $.04 for a call I NEVER received. He then put me on hold for 3 sec to ask his Supervisor... BS... He came back on and told me that I was approved for a FULL REFUND... I called ATT right after to let them know of it, and the Rep there never heard of them.. But filed a Dispute against those charges on my Acct, and also filled out a Complaint Form towards BILLWITHUS that will be sent to the FCC or FTC. Thanks to this website, I had the necessary ammo to let the ATT Rep aware that this has been going on for a while and ATT should do something about it sooner rather than later before they start losing Customers.

    I received the same charge of $16.79 for an incoming collect call from Phoenix, AZ at 6:38AM for 11 minutes. Do NOT call BILLWITHUS directly, the operators are used to receiving questions about the unknown charges and will lie to get you off the phone and tell you that you will receive a refund. Instead, call your home phone company directly (ATT for me) and ask them to send the charge back to the company. The ATT customer service rep removed the charge from my bill and sent it back to BILLWITHUS. The rep told me I may receive a bill directly from BILLWITHUS for the charges - in this case I think it would be okay to ignore the charges as the call was never made in the first place.

    i received a charge for 16.79 for an opperated assisted collect call. After speaking with a representative from billwithus, i was told they can credit 40% of the charges. I then asked to speak with the supervisor - but the supervisor wasn't available. I then asked for the supervisors voicemail - but a voicemail doesn't exist for the supervisor. I asked, since the call was operator assisted, for the name of the party who accepted the call. They didn't have the information. After insisting to speak with a suspervisor, i was told that the entire amount would be credited to my phone bill. I was given a supervisor name, extention and a confirmation number. And for the record - the number they called collect to was a fax line that never had the capability to accept voice calls.

    Beth (3-posts down) noted issues with Verizon listing incorrect numbers, so this could be the problem. I guess I'll have to take it back to AT&T.

    Today, I just discovered my elderly parents have been paying $12.95 per month to "Enhanced Services Billing Inc", when I called AT&T to ask for an explanation, I discovered I need to call them and tell them they were never authorized to be our 3rd party biller and that AT&T has put in a claim and they must give me credit and I will no longer be responsible for their $12.95/month. I must get the confirmation number, then phone it to AT&T. I will also ask them to take my name off of their list. Does anyone know how many months I can go back to get credit?

  • Bogus billing for Bill With Us
    I have been in contact with Bill With Us. They are a conference call company and never charge for collect calls. They have received hundreds of calls from Verizon customers within the most recent billing cycle. They called Verizon, who told them they accidentally put the wrong contact information on the bills. Calling Verizon customer service was little help, but a supervisor is due to call me back within 24 hours.

    I was charged $7.42 by Billwithus for a collect call from California which I never authorized or received. After my second call to ATT, they issued a credit within 30 days.
  • ILD TeleFraud
    ILD Teleservices (ILD) first attached an Internet security bill ($14.95) via AT&T. I promptly call ILD and was told it would take up to three months to remove and was told that they'd put a block on third party billings.

    The next billing cycle ILD added a telefloral service ($14.95) to my statement.

    Please let's write our Congressmen, the BBB, the FTC, Consumer Fraud Divisions, the FCC and find a class action attorney to stop these clandetine operations.

    the phone billing two 3rd partys. guest use the computer, on dail-up, use the ower of phone using name and phone contact some online service. I do not think she contract will them. the phone will not stop the service. this going two years. the phone co. say we have too call the 3rd party an have them stoy the service. and of course the 3rd partys bill-on. you show note explan it. thanks
  • Verizon billing me for fraudulent AmericaTel long distance
    Verizon has been charging me for AmericaTel long distance since Oct. 2008 which I did not sign up for. Contacting Verizon was no help as they stated they only do the billing for AmericaTel and that I had to contact AmericaTel; Verizon didn't seem to care that these were fraudulent charges but they did offer to allow us to start blocking third party billing so we signed up for that. My husband has called AmericaTel so many times I have lost count. AmericaTel finally has acknowledged that these are fraudulent charges and has stopped new charges and given us partial credit for prior charges; total charges were $10.16 and we've been credited $5.87. It will likely take numerous more calls to them to give us the remaining $4.29 in credit due. My husband has made more headway with them since calling a different customer service number under the Terms and Conditions section of their website www.americatel.com. We have also filed a complaint with the FTC about all of this.

    My AT&T bill has a charge under USBI for unlimited long distance from a company called Long Distance Depot for 19.95. I tried to call them first but I was put on hold and no one ever came back. I am now on hold again with AT&T.

    I called the phone monopoly and was told that the call was going to be investigated but that I would have to pay for it.

    This company started charging me for 'voice mail' service. AT&T added it to my bill and paid it directly to them, debited my bank account. They paid it for 6 months, and most months, they charged me for 2 months, plus every month, they charged me a sign up charge.

    We go to Florida each year and have our phone "put to sleep" while we are gone. Embarq charged us for long distance use this past winter. When I called, they said I had to tell them I wanted it cut off ahead of time.I accepted that..for awhile. Then I got mad and called back..the person I spoke to said, "Well, you have to speak to the complaint dept." "Put them on I said".
    When I spoke to them, the man said, " Of course you don't have to specify you don't want long distance when your phone is cut off. So Clark, I got $45. credit and the satifaction of knowing I WAS NOT RIPPED OFF ! Whoo Hoo !!

    FYI Clark I have unlimited local & long distance with A T & T. My bill due June 16, 2008 had a $5.43 charge for using 1010811 access. We have never used this service. I called & had the charge credited. Please let the world know. Thank you for all helpful knowledge!!!!!!!!!
  • Phony phone charges
    You should also be aware that it's not just long distance charges. It's every kind of charge they can't conjure up. My phone bill had one for "Directory Assistance" which was $7.72. A class action lawsuit has been filed in St. John's County, Florida against ILD Telecomunications which is a 3rd party biller. You didn't mention the company involved as the 3rd party biller only the phone monopolies.
