Soft car sales mean deals for you

The car business continues its downward spiral. New figures for March show that GM and Chrysler are down 20% and Ford is down 14%, year over year. Ready for the stunner? After defying slowdown, Toyota now is down 10%. Honda is the only of the Big 5 automakers that emerged flat but unscathed. Be on the lookout for deals!

One word about Chrylser, but Clark wants to preface this by saying he's hasn't heard or read anything to substantiate his beliefs, nor is he trying to kill business at Chrysler dealerships. He's just concerned because the company was recently taken private and is being run by non-automotive people. So should the company go belly-up, he fears the owners might just shrug their shoulders and move on to managing other assets in their handsomely diversified portfolio. Chrysler dealers might want to get assurances from corporate that warranties will be honored even if the company goes bust. Again, Clark has no inside knowledge about whether Chrysler is ailing or not. He's just thinking ahead about possible future scenarios.

Finally, if you like fancy cars, this is a good time. Porsche sales are down 26% and Lexus is down around 20%. The theory that the rich would continue buying status automobiles through the lean times has proven false. And keep in mind that cash is king at the dealerships as loans become harder to get.

  • Selling Used Cars
Besides Craigslist, Ebay, AJC,and Carmax are there any other effective ways to sell a used car in this time of economic instability?
  • Chryler not Honoring Warranty agreement
I recently notified Chryler cust. svc. of the poor job their dealer performed on my Jeep. They have yet to reimburse me for svcs. performed by PEP Boys.
  • comment on Chrysler
Clark, I am very disturbed,as a Chrysler Dealer, that you would make the comments you made about fears of Chrysler going out of business. Don't you know that this is how fears start and what they do to our business.
    We employ 48 people
that depend on us and Chrysler for their family's livelyhood. By your comments you are hurting their chances of making a living
and you even acknowledge that you have no evidence or knowledge of this happening.
Is your problem or so called fears because Chrysler is a private company? I will tell you I,as a Chrysler Dealer,am more confident about them
because they are a private company and don't have to report everything to Wall street. I also think that the alliance with Nissan to build their trucks show confidence in the future. I also want to remind you that Daimler still owns 19.9% of Chrysler.
I just want you to think about all the families you effect when you make unfounded comments like you made and I hope no one puts out a rumor that you are tied to the companies that you reccomend and they should not listen to your advice as you may be partial and being paid by those companies.
It would be the same thing you did without any good reason.
  • Stop with this Chrysler bashing
Chrysler has $10B in cash when Mercedes conned it into a phony-merger takeover. Chrysler was a $61B company. Mercedes was just worth $38B at the time of the takeover.
Mercedes raped Chrysler and forced it to cut costs that hurt product quality.
The new Chrysler provides a lifetime warranty on their vehicles now. The best in the business. That is very consumer friendly.
  • Don't trust anything Chrysler corporate says
I will never again own a Dodge, Chrysler anything. I had a lemon minivan that Chrysler said they would trade back for another vehicle. After sitting at the dealership for hours, they decided they couldn't do the deal. When I produced a paper that had the deal on it, they took it, ripped it up and said "you don't have anything now do you?". When contacting corporate about this dealership, they promptly said "so sue us". I think that is why they are getting passed around. Mercedes lost money just to get rid of them.

This week's poll
The high cost of jet fuel has a lot of people staying at home this summer instead of traveling. Is there a "staycation" in your immediate future?
Yes, I just can't afford a plane ticket and/or hotel room right now.
No, I've saved up all year just to get away for a bit.
Maybe, I have to wait and see how my finances pan out.
