Mar 27, 2008 -- Comcast finally does the right thing

A few weeks ago, Clark slammed Comcast for violating net neutrality and lying about it. After that debacle, the monopoly actually paid people to stack an FCC hearing room and lied about it again! Well, that was a real turning point because it fanned the flames of public outrage. Now the company has reached a deal with BitTorrent that ensures they won't degrade your Internet experience anymore. It took them a while to do the right thing, but they're finally doing it. Keep in mind that there's new tech coming in the industry that will break the cable/phone monopoly chokehold on the Internet. New wireless spectrum and WiMAX promises 10 times the speed of DSL or cable modems for less money. We Americans will no longer have to suffer through a Third World Internet experience!

Unfortunately, Clark won't be able to answer any questions submitted via commenting. If you have a question, please try posting it to our message boards.

What others are saying

  • Comcast or DirectTV or what?
i am fed up with Comcast service. the people are polite enough. i moved a few months ago and they just keep getting installation, bill payment, direct deposit...everything messed up. and charging me for their admitted mistakes. i don't have time to fool with anything complicated. i record most shows and watch later. what is my best option?
  • other choices
I have had both comcast and DirecTV for entertainment choices. I can say without hesitation that I will never go back to either one. Cable TV costs too much and looks bad too often. Satellite TV looks great when there isn't a heavily cloudy day or a storm. Both services put holes in your house to deliver entertainment options.

I read more, get out more, and enjoy life (which is a whole lot cheaper) more since I cut the expensive entertainment options out of my life.
  • hating Comcast
    "No Love for Comcast"

Any other time an industry is allowed to deregulate it is rarely for the good of the customer. You saw what happens when regulators failed to reign in control over the housing and loans markets. A massive bailout / Obama take over plan sprouted up and we tax payers are footing the bill.
  • No love here for comcast
I wish that the cable companies would deregulate, and we would have options of who to go with. Comcast is my only choice, and it is a lousy one. Half the time our cable is going out, causing my tivo to record comast's bouncing default screen. The other half of the time, the internet service is down. I hate them I hate them I hate them.
  • Going Ethical as a last resort
Comcast, unfortunately, is not the only company that lies, cheats paying customers and then hires folks for public meetings.
What scares me is that most executives today find this acceptable behavior.
  • Payback
Comcast day is coming, and like the other monopolies that have a strangle hold on us, their day too will come, and for Comcast it's just around the corner. And when it does you guys can kiss our butts good bye;-)
  • comcast
    WHOO-HOO!
  • Cable/Telephone Internet
It is about time that our ability to get data to the masses is getting out and about! It will be wonderful when they get the bugs worked out and can provide the blazing speed we all want and content that we desire, as a price we can afford! I am all for that!!!!
  • Comcast
So you think you have us by the throat. Well just remember AOL. They thought they were God!
  • Cable Company Monopoly
I think it's unfair for the cable companies to package their channels. They force you to buy higher packages just to get one or two of your favorite channels.

I believe they should have al la carte pricing available for those who just want to purchase 1 or 2 channels.
  • Comcast et al
I am waiting for the day when the internet cost for highspeed will drop. Unitl this year I used dial up. The problem is and will continue to be that the cable and phone companies are natural monopolies. Unitl the cost of entry into the highspeed arena drops there is no hope for us to enter the modern world. The government has not been doing its job in ths area.
  • Comcast
I can't wait for the monopolies to lose their stranglehold on us. Seems like anything in the U.S. that deals with communications has the power to hold us all hostage (in price and service) It's sad that other countries less developed than our own have much better internet service than the richest country in the world
  • Poor CS, Hmm not suprising
Yep, can't say I am too enthused with Comcast myself. They sold me a 12 month internet only promotion, only to go full price after 3 months. Several calls, service reps, and a retention department later I finally got them to give me another three months. They told me that the sales person made a mistake. They even found the mistake in the chat log between me and the sales representative when I signed and still will not honor what I was sold. We definately need more internet and cable competition in this market. Oh yea did I say that the service is also out atleast twice a week.
  • That's just great.
It was about time that this took place, I just hope now that this means somenthing good to the pockets of the people in this country.
  • COMCAST
Comcast has the worst serve I have ever dealt with.Customer service is HORRIBLE. I switched and will NEVER have Comcast agin!
  • what about tivo?
I have problems with the tivo with comcast digital...they suggested i buy thier dvr box or rent it forever...I bought a signal amp... I believe they have a bad monopoly on us.
I get even with them by milking the promotions...I pay $33 for digital cable and $20 for broadband. 12 month/6 month promotion. I also go to circuit city for rebate checks and better promotions available for adding internet than through comcast itself. We sometimes have to switch to my wifes name or go to another isp for a month or 2 to be eligable again but if thats what it takes to get a good rate...why not?
  • deregulation
Why is it that a necessary service like natural gas provider is deregulated but I have no say or control on who my cable provider is?
Thank you Clark for finally apologizing for pushing deregulation of the natural gas industry. It has been a disaster and there is no "putting the genie back in the bottle".
I can't stand the fact that the only choice I have for TV viewing is one cable company or 2 satellite companies and all 3 have pretty much the same price with no customer service initiative!!!
  • Cable Service
I would like to have the option of choosing another cable service besides Comcast. They are so expensive. I was about to try a satellite dish but most of my friends hate their dish. I'm between a rock and a hard place.
