Cruise fuel surcharges being refunded

Were you one of those cruise customers who got hit with a fuel surcharge fee after you booked on Royal Caribbean or Celebrity? Florida's attorney general has reached a deal to refund this rip-off surcharge to customers. The cruise industry is controlled by a small number of players who act in utter arrogance, so Clark is pleased to see this latest development. He completely supports the right of any business to jack their rates to whatever they want before a sale. But to tack on bogus fees after the fact is disgusting. While the attorney general deserves kudos, where was the FTC on this issue?

  • Disney Cruise
I was just dreaming about how fun it would be take a cruise with the kids next year sometime. I looked at the Disney site and noticed that they charge $8.00 per person and I think per day at a max. of $112 for gas surcharge or fee. I also saw an additional fee of $3.00 per person, per day at a max. of 42.00, I can't remember what that was for. I thought that was a joke but see from your site that this is being done. I guess we will plan a trip someplace else..
  • fuel Surcharge on Carnival

  • Fuel Surcharge, Princess Cruises
I booked a 7 day cruise from Vancouver to Whittier Alaska, Nov.2,2007 for travel May 24 -31. On Nov. 15th I received a letter that said I would be charged $5 per day for the 1st and 2nd persons in each of the 5 staterooms. After hearing your show, I emailed Alaska Airlines Cruise Customer Service. They say Princess will not refund the money, only apply it as a shipboard credit. I am going to appeal to my Credit Card company as this is a sizeable amount for 10 of the 16 people and it is all my money that paid for the cruise. Thanks for any advice.
  • Princess Cruise
