Feb 15, 2008 -- Trader Joe's bans food from China
There's been so much talk about Chinese exports like clothing and toys coming into our country. But did you also know that much of our food comes from mainland China? Now Trader Joe's -- the very eclectic, discount, new-age organic supermarket -- has banned food from mainland China because they're unsure about the sourcing. Trader Joe's has a great legacy of trust with its customers, so this move makes a lot of sense. In a press release, the usually media-shy company basically said that their customers have spoken and they've listened. The communist regime in China offers no system of checks and balances to assure us that their supply is safe. Clark is not jumping on the anti-free trade bandwagon here -- he's actually a fervent believer in free trade -- yet at same time he doesn't want to feed his dog food that may be poisonous. So Clark thinks Trader Joe's made the right move.

Yeah for Trader Joe's!!!
We shop at Trader Joe's all the time. In fact, as a vegetarian, we consider them our primary store for food. And a large Kroger chain for our second choice.
1. The two buck Chuck drawed us in, but then when saw all the other great stuff, we just can't shop anywhere else.
2. Here is just one product we save on: Johoba Oil at the large chain is $12.99, the same exact Johoba Oil at Trader Joe's is $6.99! 1/2 the price! Off the top! No coupon needed!
Trader Joe's
Great Move by Trader Joe's. I totally agree. More retailer's in all catagories should follow suit. China has supplied the world with cheap goods. They have accomplished this not only through cheap labor, but, by cost cutting on quaility and safety. Not to mention relaxed or non-existant environmental issues. They are able to produce cheap goods (including food) by taking a totally hands off approach with an anything goes position. They can't be trusted with suppplying safe milk to their own population. Is the rest of the world supposed to trust them? They have gotten away with this for too long already.
