May 16, 2007 -- Don't get a Dell, dude

Dell Computer continues to take it on the chin. The company now faces a lawsuit from the state of New York for cheating people on rebates and financing offers. New York alleges that Dell conspired to cheat people in those areas, and Clark has received a lot of calls to that effect. People were expecting some kind of rebate or service and Dell failed them over and over. Dell vigorously disputes the charges. But the bottom line is that you’re going to be in trouble if you buy a Dell, dude. Consumer Reports recently rated which computer companies are best in support after the sale. No one was even close to Apple. The company got a top rating in all categories. The worst rating went to Compaq in all categories. Dell got a poor rating on average wait time and a fair rating on solving problems. But calls to Clark’s show tell a different story. So, which computers break the most and which break the least? In desktops, Apple computers break the least while Gateway breaks the most. In laptops, there was a five-way tie for worst between Dell, Toshiba, Gateway, HP and Apple. That’s right. Apple did not do well with laptops, a category where Sony got the best rating.

    Purchased external wireless card that did not work. Try calling Dell and talking about returning something. They will tell you their computers are down and to cal back. After repeated attempts and using the email support for a return label I am running out of time under their 21 day return policy. i am sure that is exactly their plan. NEVER BUY A DELL OR THEIR PRODUCTS!!! They were once a wonderful company to deal with and now it is no wonder their plants (North Carolina) are closing!! Serves them right!

    We purchased two dell laptops. One for my daughter and one for husband. Neither one of them lasted for two years! Furthermore dell's customer service is lacking!! We will never buy anything from dell again. Laptops are not meant to be a disposable item. I wish someone would let dell know that! Are they any lawsuits against dell in WA State. I'd love to get involved in that
  • Credit Refusal
    I purchased a Dell mini-12 from Dell's website. I also purchased Office 2007 on July 3rd and today is July 22nd and yet to see it. I have been told by customer service that it was shipped on this date, then told a different story by another rep. I requested a refund and had to purchase office 2007 at Bestbuy and I have turned them over to the better business bureau and Dell is still fighting it. I have no office 2007 and they have charged my account. My advise stay away from Dell.

    I have been paying my bill each month on the 1st and getting a $29.00 late fee each month and now they refuse to take the late fees off when the bill is paid on time each month. now they tell I have to now after the third of the month and they still charged me a late fees. Now refuse to take them off my bill i have 15.00 payment and a 29.00 late fee each and every month

    We have regreted, so much, purchasing Dell products. not only have they burned us with their promises, and their financing charges, but their products are junk. keys on laptop fall off, the adapter, has been replaced 4 times in just 15 months, the batteries? WHAT a joke! the price on the batteries and the adapter is totally ludicrist, but the quality -- or lack thereof, is horrific! never another dell, never! service department-ha..

    I bought a Dell about a year ago and I did have a problem with it. I telephoned them about it and they sorted it straight away. I had some problems with some hardware and software. How can that be a Dell problem? All I did was to go to the software site or Hardware manufacturers site and downloaded the latest drivers. hey presto...not a problem. People don't seem to be aware that what works on XP may not work on Vista. In a lot of cases it just take a bit of common sense. I have no problems with Dell. They are great and everyone knows they produce the best computers with maybe one exception and that would be Apple. I have read all the comments on here and am confident that most coments are rubish. Use a bit of gray matter and common sense. If not give up computers and get your pens and paper out.

    Bought a Dell about 5 years ago...financed it thru Dell. They sent the wrong computer. Called them--they offered to compensate me $100. I said OK and paid paid for it with credit card immediately. Month later got a bill for $52. Next month billed for $102. This was for payments and interest tho I had completely paid for several months earlier. Fought this scam for over a year--called Dell numerous times. No solution. Now 5 years later still get calls from collection agency....now over $200. I gave up trying to explain/solve. Dell has ruined a once good credit rating. NEVER will buy Dell!

    I bought a dell in '05. One of the top models, I paid 1100 and some odd dollars for this thing. Was givin' a deal of 12 months same as cash. I paid every month $100 for one year and then they come back and told me that I owed them $400 more dollars. I told them they were not getting any more for me. AS far I was concerned I over paid them something like $45. This is '09and the interest is escaladed this thing well over $900. Let alone what it has done to my credit. Can you help me out here!!!!

  • Dell Precision 690 Workstation.
    Because of problems with a Micron desktop, I decided to purchase the best computer I could think of. I spent over $4000 dollars for the Subject computer and that computer turned out to be the MOST EXPENSIVE and WORST computer I ever bought. The Motherboard was replaced then did not work, the computer was replaced and then the hard drive was replaced. WHAT NEXT?

    I was on the phone for 4 hours with dell support when I had computer problems. The tech guy was obviously from/in India and could not speak english to well, besides that it was also obvious he was reading from a manual! You call that support??? The real kicker was when he asked me to take the side panel off my puter and remove a few boards!!! Duhhhhh! Im so sick of dells crap support, As a consumer we should NOT have to put up with being treated that way, if anyone can provide me with the means to join the lawsuit please let me know, and I will do the same for you, Dar

    My daughter bought a Dell wireless in February, 2008 and it is still not working....she has been on the phone with Dell a total of 18 hours....they replaced the harddrive already...said she needed a new router...got one...she wanted a new computer, afterall it is new!!!! And still not working, they will not replace it..their contention is that it is now over their 20 day return policy...OF COURSE IT IS!!! I never worked from the very beginning. Do Not buy a Dell!
