Aug 30, 2006 -- For auto insurance, go with top two

Insurance is one thing Clark doesn’t skimp on, and he doesn’t want you to either. You want your life insured with a financially solid company that will be around down the road when your family may need it. With life insurance, quality means financially strong. When it comes to car and home insurance, quality means that the company is there for you and does a good job. J.D. Power & Associates and Consumer Reports recently rated auto insurers, and both found two companies that are far better than any other company. There are good companies out there, but these two blow everyone away every year. They are USAA and Amica Mutual. USAA is only available to military personnel, their dependents and recent retirees. But Amica is open to everyone. You must qualify as a solid customer and you must have a good driving record. It’s tough to get in. But once you’re in, you will be very happy. So, which company is the worst? According to J.D. Power, AIG was the worst insurer. It’s one of the world’s largest insurers, but apparently its customers are not very satisfied. Just above was GMAC, Mercury and Allied. Clark was surprised by one of the lower ranked companies – Progressive. The company is known as being very smart and changing the insurance industry for the better. But again, its customers aren’t getting the service they want, according to the survey.

What others are saying

  • AAA
This is a good insurance company but I believe only available in California. When I have compared with AllState or State Farm, neither can beat them. Their service is amazing.
  • USAA NEW RULES
I just signed up for USAA! They apparently just recently (last few days) are now allowing ANY prior serviceman to register. Prior, you had to be in service after 1996. I was in service 1961-1964 and so now ANYONE who has been in the service can join!!
  • USAA
I have been with USAA for 23 years. They just raised my auto by 70%!! What?? It has been about $360 for over a decade. Never a late payment, never a claim, great driving record. I am looking for another insurer. After reading the internet it looks like USAA is going down hill fast. I now longer see the benefit to staying with this once "great" company. See ya USAA.
  • AMICA Mutual
They won't write new homeowner policies in Florida. They also DO NOT rebate back to auto policyholders in Florida after the 1st year.
  • USAA Ins
I have been with USAA over 20 years and never thought about leaving until recently. I have three teenage drivers and all 5 of us have perfect driving records. I now pay $7,000 per year for the 5 of us. I also have Life and Home owners with them as well. I shopped rates just to see if USAA was out of line and was mistified to find out I might be paying about $2,000 more then I would with other companies. I called USAA to see if they could do better and they flat out said NOPE! I am not sure where customer loyalth is anymore. I am a little dicouraged with them at this point
  • AMICA for the long run
Our family has been with AMICA for Home & Auto since 1972. Never had a single complaint. If a claim was made, we often wondered how they could possibly handle it so quickly. Once after a auto accident and damage appraisal the same day before 3pm, I had a check the next afternoon in the mail.
  • USAA for Noobs only
So not only did they discriminate against low class grunts that weren't officers, they age discriminate against most war vets from Vietnam, WWII and before.
Say you got in just before the surrender-monkeys took over in 'Nam. Add 20 years to 1975 and you get 1995...their cutoff is 1996.
As far as the gunophobes at the other one go, maybe their name should be Scamica. Are they familiar with the 2nd amendment of the US Constitution?
  • Amica Insurance
We tried to get Amica Insurance for both house and auto. The agent really quizzed my husband on the guns he has and as a result, came back with a refusal to insure us. We have had no children and therefore no children come into our house ever We are both over 70 years old and believe me, don't wear them on our hips. Should we have lied to them in order to get their insurance?
  • USAA
Try and beat their rates, plus solid pay history. Getting claims paid from any Casualty company is going to be a chore, Life, Health, and Property insurance are all different animals.
  • USAA
I am a 77 year old veteran of the Korean conflict. USAA will not insure me because I was honorably discharged in 1957 instead of 1996. Interesting, very interesting.
  • Amica Insurance
I have been with Amicia for years and the cost and customer service is # 1.
  • USAA insurance
I disagree with your comment about USAA. I carried USAA insurance for a number of years but when my wife was involved in an accident they were the rudest people to deal with. We dropped them after that incident.
  • USAA Membership now open to Enlisted
A few days ago I checked with USAA just to see if I could get coverage. I am retired MSG, US Army and previously you had to be an officer. They now are open to all Enlisted Ranks, active and retired, I saved $266 a yr on Auto and $377 a yr on Home Insurance. So all you enlisted types check them out.
