May 09, 2006 -- Clark is sleeping with the enemy

Clark wants you all to know that he is about to sleep with the enemy. After 12 years with a satellite company, he’s switching to cable for pay television service. Needless to say, his family is not too happy with him. His daughter lost the shows she’d saved on the DVR and his wife is having trouble getting used to the change. But the cable company had a better deal. They offered cash a decent amount of cash to switch, and Clark couldn’t say no. When Clark called Direct TV to disconnect, the representative said he’d never had anyone cancel after that many years. But Clark figures he’ll be back. The cable company will run out of money at some point, and Direct TV will have a full HDTV set up. That’s what Clark is hoping for.

Unfortunately, Clark won't be able to answer any questions submitted via commenting. If you have a question, please try posting it to our message boards.

What others are saying

  • DirecTV
We've had Directv for about 6 years and decided to cancel because of the cost. Unfortunately, our DVR went bad a few months back and had to be replaced. We had no idea this automatically extended our contract with Directv for 24 months. When we called to cancel, we spoke to customer "no service" who told us we owed $440 to cancel. WHAT?!?!?! We demanded to speak to a supervisor who eventually reversed the cancellation charges.
  • DirecTV
Unfortunately, we switched to Direct TV from DISH about 6 months ago and HATE IT. I called to cancel and am looking at an enormous cancellation fee. The service has been terrible; the set up, guide, remote, etc. are not at all user friendly. Word to the wise: DirecTV - don't do it!
  • Cable vs Satellite
Between 2006 and 2008 DirecTV customer service has become so bad, I switched to cable. I was a loyal DirecTV customer for 9 years and they lost me because of sloppy customer service. I was being billed for receivers I did not have and they knew it, but never fixed it.
  • DIRECTV-HD
In order to get HD, You have to purchase an HD receiver from Directv for $99. Then you have to pay an additional $9.99 per month for the service, and you have to pay an additional $4.99 per month "lease fee" for the receiver you just purchased. But that's not all. In order to purchse and lease you have to sign a 2-year contract.
