Mar 14, 2006 -- Are class action lawsuits worth joining?

How should you respond when you get a letter in the mail, telling you about a class action lawsuit you are eligible for and all the money you could receive? Well, Joni got one of these mailings recently and she brought in the legal paperwork for Clark to read. It turns out that she would have received about 15 cents once it was all over. That hardly sounds worth it. But there are times when there could be some real money for you if you've been wronged. Either way, take the time to read the information yourself. It may payoff.

Unfortunately, Clark won't be able to answer any questions submitted via commenting. If you have a question, please try posting it to our message boards.

  • Class Action Lawsuit concerning Siding
Flyer's were put on mail boxes in my neigborhood, informing family's that a lawsuit was won in 1998 concerning siding. Know names of company are listed, and terms like Recovery Service-Claims Department Building Materials are used, Call Now 404 246-9316. Seems different, seeing that I have receieved legal notices in past concerning other class action suits. I will not call, but just wanted to know who has seen this.
  • Siding payment on lawsuit
Our claim was filed which gave us two checks. One for the $50.00 for the surveying the house and $105.20 for our part of claim. When I called DP they said they have to keep refileing the claim and we would get the same payment from Louisana-Pacific but have to pay them the fee each time. She said it would be worth it but this seems like it going to be a pain...not sure what to do.
  • Siding class action lawsuits
Matt Turner @ Data Processing Svcs. came to our house in re: to a claim for damaged siding. He told us that our siding was included in a class action lawsuit...he added our name to the suit(which he said there would be NO out of pocket $) and said we would receive up to $6000 to replace our siding. He said there was 2 yrs. left to file a claim for our siding. He said an independent inspector would come to our house to inspect the % of damages. We then heard nothing for 5 months until we recv'd a letter from Data Processing that our claim was denied due to age limits. Two days later, we recv'd a BILL from Data Processing for a $50.00 fee for inspection?!! I feel this is a SCAM to make money for Data Processing. As far as I know, no one came to our residence to do any kind of inspection, (not even a tag on our door that they were here). They also claim to be a member of the BBB Atlanta. I do not feel that we owe Data Processing Svcs. any money, and feel they wasted our time. Please advise.
    Thank you,
    Cindy Trutt
