Dec 12, 2005 -- Work-from-home jobs on the rise

You are going to find more opportunities to work full-time or part-time from your home in the years to come. It’s known in the industry as having a “remote workplace.” Some employers, of course, won’t consider it at all. Others are at the other extreme and will do everything they can to encourage people to work from their homes. Companies that jump into the trend with both feet have come up with solid procedures to monitor your work and save tons of money with work-at-home programs. Sun Microsystems has about half of its workforce at home now and has saved $300 million a year as a result. The company doesn’t need office space, computer or phones, so it saves a ton of money. Another technology company, Agilent, has closed 50 U.S. sales offices and reduced their cost by 60 percent. About 12 percent of U.S. workers are now working remotely, and as many as 40 percent are expected to work at least part-time from home in the next few years. Everyone benefits. So, what’s the disadvantage of working from home? You may end up working too much. And, showing your face around the boss and other people at work is always advantageous. But the new mantra in the workplace seems to be: "If you want to keep them, let them go."

  • short sales
Hi, I am a realtor and have recently recieved my certification (SFR) as a short sale/foreclosure resource to help get through the slow real estate market.
My question is.....is there a one stop source to go to for additional liens against the property other than the 1st, 2nd, and maybe 3rd mortgages? There could be HOA, workmans, utilities, taxes and other liens that I am unaware of. Thanks for your suggestions.

  • Work at Home - Google Ads
I used a link to provide information about Google Ads as a home job. The link stated for $1.00 you can access the site for a day and decide if you want their "ezkit" to get started. After putting my card information and checking the site, I figured this was not the best suit for me. Little did I realize that there is a disclaimer on the screen after payment that states if you are not interested in the business, you must call and notify them to void your new "account". Sure enough, two days later my account was charged $79.86 for my newly purchased "ezkit". I called the number, stated my case and asked if they could verify that after review of the site on the initial day I never utilized any information or downloaded their kit. The first person who answered the phone line and listened stated that all "sales" are final, there is no reimbursement available regardless of what I do with their information. I asked to speak with a supervisor or decision-maker who can rectify this so I do not have to contact the Better Business Bureau and escalate outside of their company. Sure enough, he stated he was the manager, there is no one above him at the company to speak to (sure) and this conversation is done because he stated the policy on this situation (when asked what the policy was, perhaps I didn't hear it, he said "you purchased your ezkit 48 hours after creating an account, the money is non-refundable"). I feel only half liable for this situation. Yes, I should have read all viable information and I clearly did not. But on the other side, this information is not exactly easy to see and there is no verification or check box. PLEASE PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THESE ADS, WE SEARCH FOR SUPPLEMENTAL INCOME OPPORTUNITIES AND DON'T REALIZE THAT THEIR MAIN OBJECTIVE IS TO "SELL" THESE "KITS" IN ANY WAY POSSIBLE. I feel like I learned a great lesson, but at the same time was GROSSLY taken advantage of by a major corporation. Please, don't let it happen to you, we only search for jobs when we need money and they only offer opportunities when they TAKE it from you.
  • Home business
I have a home business for a company only 6 years old and we are over a billion dollar company and growing. If anyone wants to hear about it email me at justtwo@charter.net. You can work the hours you want and make as much as you put into it. We have a strong support team that you get to talk to, not just email or voice mail.

You are not going to find an easy job that allows you to work from home. Get real. I work from home, but got here because I proved myself in the workplace. I work just as much, if not more this way. It has many advantages though, but any 'real' work from home job is just as demanding as working from the office and you're not going to find it from some company offering to tell you how to work from home. My advice: get a job out of the home, and grow it into the ability to work from home. More companies are trending this way. If you are a stay home mom looking for extra income, hate to break your heart...but it ain't gonna happen. So many in this country want privileges for no investment.

  • Working at home
There are numerous financial benefits of working at home, but social isolation is one of the negative benefits. Home workers must make an extra effort to find social outlets that get them out of the home after working hours.

Nowhere on Agilent website is there any reference to jobs where you can work remotely, nor on Sun Microsystems. In fact, I just read Sun is cutting 1,000 jobs.
False hope, I'm afraid for those of us trying to find an answer to the high cost of living.
