Aug 24, 2005 -- Bally's not letting victims out of contracts
You never want to sign a contract at a health club, especially a multi-year contract. Why? The entire business model for most gyms is to get your money ahead of time and then hope that you dont ever work out. In one of its filings with the Feds, the health club Ballys disclosed that the average member works out one-half of once per week. Its just what happens after people sign these contracts. Ballys is one of the most notorious clubs out there for its shenanigans with customers. Most recently, the company has been under the watchful eye of Wall Street for allegedly cooking its books. In addition, several consumers had expensive watches and money stolen from the clubs locked lockers. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the people wanted to cancel their memberships but Ballys wouldnt let them. They claimed it was an isolated incident. A legitimate health club is interested in your physical fitness and doesnt make you sign a contract.

I signed up for month to month at Stone Mountain Ballys. they conned me into giving a check for 2 months membership dues and immediately VOIDED my check & scanned it in a machine. that authorized them to automatic withdrawals from my checking acct. I was upset with this and proceeded to cancel my membership for refund. per contract I had 7 business days for refund. I mailed the buyer's remorse letter by certified mail within 7 days. so far I have not heard or got a letter from Bally's acknowledging cancellation. I figure those clowns will continue withdrawing from my account. I closed my bank account to stop that. will take them to court for this. anybody knows if there is a class action lawsuit on them ? I wished I had researched more on Bally's b4 going there. All I have read is nothing good, scams and fraudulent activities by Bally. DO NOT JOIN THEM 1
Attempts to collect on an old membership.
I have been a member of our local Bally's Fitness Center. Recently my wife and I renewed our membership, making some canges an adding a family member. I learned later that this was a totally new, separate contract form the old one. That it was my responsibility to close down the old one. I have NEVER been able to contact anyne at "customer no service". I went through my local club manager and sent email to the Corp. They assured me that the account was closed. I just received a bill for being overdue since May when I renewed. I have pretty much done all that I can do.
Termination of Bally Fitness Membership
I sent a termination letter to Bally Fitness almost two months ago. They still charge my account. According to the contract, it only takes at least 3 weeks. It is almost two months now.
I tried to call their customer service but no single person whom I can talk to.
They are really worst and slow. How should I do with this?
