Jun 06, 2005 -- Skype and Earthlink offer great phone deals
Months ago, Clark talked about a company known as Skype that was offering phone service for free or nearly free. Skype is an alternative phone service that is offering the cheapest Internet telephone calls in the market. Without advertising, Skype still has managed to gain one-and-a-half million customers. Skype works from one computer to another. So, if other people sign up for Skype, you can call each other for free. You can also set up a regular number and a voicemail for $3 dollars a month, and any outgoing calls cost just 1.9 cents a minute. In addition, it basically follows you wherever you want to go, too. So, in other words, you can call from any computer. Clark warns that the setup is not for Internet novices. .
Earthlink is also offering a great deal. The company charges very little money to control your household phone lines. Its much cheaper than other offers from the monopoly phone companies. Earthlink is starting this deal in October in Dallas, San Francisco, Seattle, and San Jose. It involves a real phone and is less technical than Skype, which may appeal to some.
