Aug 03, 2004 -- Carry no debt and gain more control

More than anything, Clark despises debt because it makes us weak. Yes, there are certain circumstances when you have to borrow. But the more you borrow, the more at risk you are. It’s the same in corporate America. The more debt a company has, the worse off it is. According to Investor’s Business Daily, the companies with the most successful stocks borrow the least amount of money. The magazine puts together a list of the 100 most successful stocks out there. At least half of the companies on the list have either zero debt or nearly zero debt. And, 25 companies – or one-fourth of the companies - have no debt at all. It means that half of the companies out there have substantial debt. But having as little debt as possible is a clear indication of success. We already have a cumulative deficit for the year that exceeds the debt the country had in its first 150 years. We’re not even half way through the year. That is scary, especially when you think we have to pay it back. If you’re carrying a lot of debt in your own life, take control. The more you own and the less you owe, the more powerful you become financially.
