Jun 10, 2004 -- States making money once again
For the first time since the last millennium, state and local governments are making money. A lot of fees have been added and college tuitions have been going up because states havent been able to collect tax revenues. State tax revenues are directly tied to the economy, and things have been in the toilet. So now that the economy is improving, state deficits are, too. There has been a big boom in tax collection as the job market improves. In states that are careful with government spending, there could be possible tax cuts. In states where programs have been cut back, these will be restored. So, what is the role of government in your opinion? Should they give us money back or give us more services. Its an individual philosophy, but the news is good all round.
In other news, Clark recently asked listeners a very divisive poll question. It involved a pharmacy on the West Coast, Longs Drugs, whose shareholders wanted the company to stop selling cigarettes to promote health and wellness. The owners wanted to keep selling cigarettes as a way of making money, and they didnt see anything wrong with selling them because they are legal. We asked you what you thought. And would you believe the results were nearly spilt down the middle. Clark sees both sides of it. There are no comments yet. Be the first to post one!
