May 05, 2004 -- Fake diamond rings and rented wedding dresses?

There was an exact 50-50 split in our show meeting today about whether a cubic zirconia would suffice for a woman’s engagement ring. The “CZ’s,” as they are called, are getting more and more popular as diamond stand-ins. The other look-alike is called “moissanite,” and it costs about 10 percent less than a diamond. Apparently, the brilliance of moissanite is equivalent to a diamond, and it’s impossible to tell that what you’re getting is a fake. So, would you rather have $5,000 dollars on your hand or in your new home? Tell us in our weekly poll. Joni said having a diamond engagement ring was very important to her. She would know that what she has on her hand is cheaper in quality, and that doesn’t cut it. What about wedding dresses? The biggest movement in this business is women buying dresses off the rack for a couple hundred dollars. Women are also renting wedding dresses and borrowing from friends to avoid the hefty cost of a dress they’ll probably only wear once. Would you be willing to wear a rented dress?

I personally agree with the suggestions in the aforementioned article. I am 27 and am absolutely and completely in love with my fiancee (we have dated for 7 years now). I have a passion for my career and success. I have a great 401k, 403b and pension plan going for me since 23 after landing a great job post graduation. My focus and my future husband's focus is generating wealth. I am totally fine with 100 facet diamonique for my engagement and wedding ring - its beautiful and believable and I won't cry if a lose it travelling for work or what have you. Just the stone the remainder of the rings are solid 18K gold. As for my dress I am buying a new but sold by private sale dress. Beautiful dress normally 5000 that I am getting for 499. Great! We love saving money and going about things the more innovative cheap way. At 27 we are acquiring savings, guaranteed to be millionaires if we stay on the right track when we retire and are achieving career accomplishments that normally would occur in our mid to late 30s. I'll take it!!! No one can tell the difference!!
