Feb 20, 2004 -- 60 percent of public on the DNC list

Clark is excited to say that the public has responded with great enthusiasm to the Federal “Do Not Call” list. Since Clark first started talking about the list last year, about 60 percent of the American public has signed up. That was in spite of several court challenges that stalled the process. So, how it’s working so far? Of the people who have signed up, one in four have not received a single telemarketing call. That’s huge. A little more than half say they still get some calls, but it is far less than before. So, junk phone calls are severely reduced. And, only five percent of people say the system has not worked for them. Clark wants to convince the other 40 percent of the public to sign up. That should be enough, don’t you think? So, how do you do it? Go to donotcall.gov and register your phone number. You then receive an e-mail confirmation that you must respond to, and your calls should stop in a few months. IT’S NOT TOO LATE!

What others are saying

  • DNC list
Crooks are calling saying they will help you get on the DNC list!! They call you first and tell you either the dnc list has expired and you need to renew your listing there or say they will help you get on it. Then there is a computer generated call that says it is through Craigs list(??)and gives you a 5 digit code to give to the original caller. When you give the code to the first caller he says you are now on the DNC list. But it doesn't stop the telemarketers. I received 3-4 calls like this. I fell for it the first time and then quickly knew it was a prank call when he asked for my name and chest size!!!!
  • Contributing to the economic recession because of self righteous attitudes
Honestly I can't believe the people that type these emails and think that they are so intelligent and have it all figured out. Read your emails back again and tell me how you cannot see how self righteous and naive you sound. I am not trying to start off by insulting anyone but when I read this article and the other one that said, "How do I sue AT&T or other carriers because I asked to be taken off their list and they called again. I also hear that they settle out of court for $500-$1500" it makes me concerned about our country. Disgusting but this is a very normal comment amongst the group that heads up this fight! If you don't want your intelligence questioned than for example, please don't be naive enough to think that when you ask that the one telemarketer, who normally isn't even an employee for the main corporation and is a distributor, to add you to the DNC list that instantly the other hundreds of thousands of telemarketers are going to stop calling immediately. This process takes time. Because you have caused these companies to lose so much money they are also outsourcing their sales and customer service so when you need you DSL fixed you are forced to speak to a guy in India who can't understand you. If you would give these reps more than a second to speak you may see that they are human beings that have families and feelings just like you or I. Ask your entire family if they have ever had a telemarketing job or sales job that required them to make calls over the phone. I guarantee that everyone of you has a member of your own family that has at one time worked in this industry. So if it's you brother or son does that make it different all of a sudden. If it doesn't than you have a heart made of ice. The majority of people that share this belief with you will drive miles to save a nickel on gas but when they get home hang up on the guy that could have saved you $500 this year by bundling your home phone, TV, internet and cell phone. You do this because we have all been burned by the guys that have promised us the world and not delivered. This doesn't just happen with telemarketers. Have you ever read the marketing material that is included with every product you purchase. If you were to go by what they promise you on their material you would think you order the wrong product after using it. Have you ever been promised the moon and the stars by a car salesman but then when it comes time to deliver everything changes. I know I have but I don't start riding my bike to work nor do I stop using deodorant because it says that it will make me stop sweating and doesn't.

  • telephone solicitations
Telemarketers have found ways to call folks on the Do Not Call List without identifying themselves. Any suggestions? I would like to be able to file complaint.
  • Credit card companies calling my number that is on the Do Not Call List
I have had a TracFone for 2 years, and I am still getting calls from Washington Mutual Card Services for the person that had that phone number before I got it. I have told that company over 50 times that I am not the person that used to have this number, and that this number is on the Do Not Call List, but I still get calls on a daily basis. I have registered complaints with the DoNotCall.Gov on many occasions, but it has done absolutely no good. What can I do? My E Mail is:michael.e.hicks@navy.mil
