Jan 09, 2004 -- Traditional long distance carriers raise rates

Long distance overall has been getting cheaper, and for many it’s free. But, according to the Personal Journal, the major long distance carriers are raising rates through the roof. AT&T is now going to charge $50 a year to 10 million of its most loyal customers on the basic rate plan. In other words, they’ll be paying full retail prices plus $50 a year just to be a customer. So, if you’re an AT&T customer, fire them immediately! There is no other way. MCI owns the 10-10-220 game. The company is raising rates on these calls 76 percent. Sprint is also raising rates. If you’re looking for alternatives, check out Clark’s long distance page. The cost per minute is between 2 and 5 cents a minute, and there are no fees. The most loyal customers are getting taken under these new programs, and that is just wrong.
