Jan 02, 2004 -- Six common "germy" household items
A sick bug has been biting most of Clarks staff, with only a few people able to stay well. But you dont have to get sick from germs in the air or at the office. Objects in your home can also cause sickness. Dr. Joseph Mercola, author of the No-Grain Diet, has put together a list of six things in the home that are most likely to get you sick. The first one is kistchen sponges and rags. These are germ havens. The first and most obvious answer, of course, is to replace them often. A lot of people use paper towels instead of sponges because they are thought to be dirty. But you can always clean sponges in the dishwasher if you dont replace them. How about cutting boards? Cleaning them with bleach is the best idea. The next germ-ridden area is your sink drains, both kitchen and bathtub sinks. Pouring baking soda down the drains will help, and disinfect regularly. Kitchen countertops are also pretty nasty. They need frequent cleaning. Doorknobs are another potential germ hazard. Many people use a paper towel to turn the doorknob in public bathrooms after they wash their hands. And, the last item on the list is your toothbrush. If youve been sick, you should throw away your toothbrush immediately. Even if you havent been sick, you should replace it periodically.
