Jan 02, 2004 -- Employers hiring more college grads

Clark is extremely happy to give you some good news about the job front. According to Money Magazine, employers expect to hire about 13 percent more college grads over the next year than over the prior year. A little bit more than half of employers say they are going to raise starting salaries, as well. So, if you are a college grad you want to start young and early. The good news is that companies hire interns about half the time. So, if you’re an intern you have a 50-50 shot. So, what are the low end and high end on the salary spectrum? A computer engineering degree will earn you an average starting salary of $51,000. A psychology major, on the other hand, will earn about half that. So, should you run out and become a computer engineer? Only if you love it. Other high-paying jobs are accounting, electrical and mechanical engineering, MIS, and information sciences. But remember Clark’s first rule. You should study something you enjoy. If it’s a great career field, that’s not the only reason to do it.
