Jan 01, 2004 -- Prestigious schools accept community college students

Clark has a new angle for students looking to go to prestigious colleges and universities. Instead of taking the traditional four years at a senior college, you can now go to community colleges and save gigantic amounts of money the first two years of your schooling. According to the Personal Journal, students that go to community colleges during their freshman and sophomore years have much a higher chance of being accepted at selective colleges for their last two years than do students applying straight out of high school. There are also honors programs at community colleges that dramatically improve the choices available to these students later on. Many students who go to four-year schools have spent their junior year abroad and it’s started to affect the revenue streams of colleges. It leaves them with a lot of empty classes, so these schools are now more willing to accept students for their junior or senior year. Examples of schools that have higher acceptance rates for students who have completed two-year degrees include UC Berkeley and UVA. At UC Berkeley, applying as a community college transfer increases your odds of acceptance from 25% to 33%. UVA has a program with a community college in which 66% of the students who apply are accepted for their junior and senior years. This is a good option for students who want to go to a particular school, but are not accepted straight out of high school.
