My husband and i have not had cable tv for 8 years. As a result i don't get caught up in all the latest trends. It's actually kind of nice. Another change is the commitment to not purchase anything made in China. If you take the time to read your clothing labels you'd be surprised how many overpriced clothing items come from China. I agree with the writer that we should take care of our purchases. Putting tape on the heels of your boots is not taking care of your things. People do notice but they should be polite enough to not point out your boots. They probably think you fell on hard times and feel sorry for you. You should buy some new boots and keep them put up when you aren't wearing them. It's ok to be a consumer just buy good quality shoes with a classic style. They will last longer.

This week's poll
Do you like the idea of auto insurers switching to a pay-as-you-drive model -- where how, when and where you drive may be monitored?
Yes, I'm all for any approach that can save me money.
No, it's too much like having Big Brother in the back seat.
I'm not sure. I'd like the savings, but I don't know if I'd feel comfortable being monitored.
