For the past 25 years, my disposable income has also gone to travel more than any other item. We rented all those years out of inertia (happy where we were living and our rent was way below market rate). We could have saved for a house and bought years ago but, in reality, we are ahead. We had several wonderful trips to Europe from 1999-2006. Now the dollar is too weak to think of going to Europe. We bought a house in December, it's gorgeous, like living in a luxury resort. So, instead of travel, I plan to enjoy my house for a couple of years. Hopefully the dollar will recover and we'll be able to travel again. But I don't regret doing it while the dollar was strong.
