until maybe 10yrs ago. It seems the allowing of direct to consumer advertising by drug manufacturers was at the same time drug prices shot through the roof. The Wall Street Journal printed an article in the late 90's, using numbers supplied by PHARMA, showing that mfgs spent 3 dollars on marketing for every 1 dollar on research. While I do agree that medication as a treatment option is far more cost effective than others, prices for meds could be much lower.
