There is another aspect of gift cards that I've never heard mentioned. Say someone gives you a gift card for Barnes and Noble in the amount of $25. Two likely scenarios are: (1) you buy a book for 19.99 plus tax, and are then left carrying around a card worth about $4, or (2) you buy a book for $30 and must pay the extra from your own cash.<br> <br> The chances of finding a book for *exactly* $25 are low. In any case, cash would have been a better gift.
