This past winter (a particularly long and cold one here in Michigan, despite "global warming") was the third year in a row we have not used our furnace. We live on 20 acres of hardwood timber, which I selectively harvest for home heating in our wood-burning fireplace insert. Our heat is warm and toasty! I cut, haul, split, and stack all my own wood - so it's a fitness club of sorts, too! How much savings is that?!?!
