We live in Central Illinois and are on a Real Time Pricing Program and saved 10.7% last year on electricity. Many other people saved about 16%, but my "other half" doesn't really pay much attention to his use of electricity. I do control the thermostat, laundry and dishwasher which are probably the bigger draws on power in our house so that was enough to save at least 10% and put it back in our pockets! <br> <br> Cheap hours for us are late at night, early in the morning and weekends also tend to be cheaper. As long as you are more frugal with power during the real peak hours, it's easy to save money. The website I refer to for our program with Ameren IP power company has great tips and all the guidelines for our program at powersmartpricing.org Anyone else can just check with their local utility to see if they have the option to sign up for a real time pricing program.
