Clark and I just finished a TV story that answers the question, "How far should you drive to save on gas?"
Now, before I go any further, I should admit, one of the reasons I gravitated toward a journalism degree was the fact I only had to take 1 math class.
I remember thinking, "Who needs this stuff anyway?" Now, as consumer producer, I really DO need to know how to do this!
For this story, I spent an afternoon working on a spreadsheet. I figured out mileage on the average car, average size of a tank and computed what it cost to get from one station to another.
Clark takes one look at my work and says I'm wrong! Turns out you have to calculate the total cost of operating a car per mile. The AAA says it's now 54 cents. So he stands in front of the mike, makes all the changes in his head, does the math and comes out right on the money! I'm so jealous.
But, on the other hand, maybe I don't have to know this math stuff to work with Clark. I'll just get Clark to do all the heavy lifting. He doesn't need batteries, and he always gets it right. Now, if I could just get him to balance my checkbook!
