More Fuel for the Fire

Next Monday, Clark has a story on WSB-TV about gas prices. Specifically, it's about whether to trade in your gas guzzler for a more fuel efficient car.

Quick tangent: J.D. Power and Associates says the number one complaint of Hummer owners is...drum roll, please...fuel economy!! File that under D for "duh!" What did people think they were getting when they bought a Hummer?

Hang on a second while I step back off my soapbox...back to Clark's story: We found the coolest website for calculating whether to get a more fuel efficient car. Just punch in the numbers and you will get a "yes" or a "no" answer on a new car. Sort of like a magic 8 ball using algebraic equations.

We're going to be doing a ton of stories on gasoline as long as the price stays up there. If you have any ideas for stories, I'd love to know -- just post a comment on the blog! (Also, any other story ideas, or questions about TV, just post them! But don't even TRY to get me to comment about anchor Monica Pearson's hair. Not gonna happen!)

  • Thank You, and Suggestions
    Patti,

First, I'd like to thank you and Clark for featuring Political Calculations so prominently! As a long time fan of Clark's radio work, I thought that you might like to know that you've driven quite a bit of traffic our way. Clark's fans have helped push our "Should You Trade In Your Gas Guzzler?" tool into our top ten most popular posts of all time!

For a gas price related suggestion - I'd suggest the post you've displaced from its previous position in our top ten: "Is It Worth the Drive?" - it's a look at whether or not it might make sense to drive further to fill up with cheaper gas and was surprisingly popular when gas prices spiked following Hurricane Katrina, which indicates the topic is of considerable interest (but like the gas guzzler tool, one that hasn't been seeing much traffic, at least until you picked it up!)

We do, of course, feature a large number of tools that might be of interest for other features, and of course, we're always on the lookout for new ideas to develop.
  • Great idea!
I'm going to look into it. Thanks! I haven't looked at conversion kits yet, but I am looking into one device and we'll be doing the story in a few weeks. I'll be sure to post here about what we find out!
  • Conversion Kits
Do any of the conversion kits actually work? Supposedly these will allow your gas vehicle to be converted to use another fuel, or to have a electric system of some kind to supplement the gas engine with out having to buy a new vehicle.
