How Far Will You Go to Save?

Oftentimes we are not creative enough or flexible enough to really save money when we could. I know that can be true of me at times.

I'm flying out to the Pacific Northwest for a little vacation and I was looking for good prices on tickets. It turns out there weren't any from Atlanta to Portland. I could fly to Seattle and take a train down. I could also fly from somewhere else. Southwest flies out of Birmingham and I was able to find a ticket for about $100 less from Birmingham to Portland.

I bought it not knowing how I would get to Birmingham to fly out. I have friends from there and one of my friends has decided to give me a ride and he can see his mom at the same time.

So, I have a flight now but it took some flexibility to save the cash. I have to fly out of a different city. Oh, and I also have to stop in two cities on the way. Not the most relaxing flight out but I'll have 100 bucks in my wallet that I wouldn't have otherwise. Also, I have family in Tacoma and want to see them. I'm planning on finding a Craigslist rideshare to get up to Tacoma. Just another way to save some money.

I would love to hear what lengths you take to save money and if you think my ideas are crazy or not.

  • oh Joel...
I wish you would start blogging again. I just started listening to Clark a year ago, and can't get info of yall's podcasts. This is especially true when you get to speak on the show. <3 <3
  • Read before you purchase the Magic Jack
After reading over 50 blogs entries I have no choice but not to buy a Magic Jack. Poor customer service and many issues with it working correctly. After reading the issue about them taking the money before the 30 free days, I can understand the difference between the credit card and debit card and why the take the money right away when the debit card is used. All in all, I do not want the Magic Jack headache. Looks like using the normal phone service is still better.
  • Poor Cuastomer Service Gives the Run Around
If you have a problem like one with billing... look out! You will be passed around so many customer service agents that you will just give up and forget trying to fix your problem.
The worse customer service Ive ever seen!
  • Magic Jack
I have been a Clark Howard listener for years, so I believed him when he said to try Magic Jack. I have been ripped off by Magic Jack. My account has been debited twice for the same order 2 days after the order was placed, not the 30 days as listed on Magic Jack's advertisement, and now I cannot get my money back. Magic Jack only has chat support. The reason I am so bad is because I did not complete the transaction, I told the order filler to stop the process, I did not want the Magic Jack afterall, and now I have to deal with getting my money back. So much for trying to save money.
