Apparently Americans are going to start driving less. Really!?! For some reason I've got to see it to believe it on this issue.

64% say they have made some changes and are driving less due to rising prices. 1 in 5 people in the survey said that they have made major changes to their driving routines. I hope I'm not just being cynical, but we are gas addicts in America. Many of us don't get the concept of driving less.

I am making a personal effort to drive less and ride my scooter as much as possible. It bit me in the behind today though. I forgot to check the weather and now it's raining. For me though it is a personal mission to drive down my monthly expenditures, including the small stuff which means driving my gas sipping chick magnet as much as possible.

Because of my drive to eradicate frivolous uses of my hard earned dough I am trying to cut down on extra expenditures that aren't needed. I'm not eating out nearly as much as I used to. I pack my lunch more. I have begun using coupons. I mean, me, a 24 year old guy, using coupons. That is serious stuff. Sometimes, they seem like more hassle than they're worth but I've been doing it. Instead of going out for a beer, I'm trying having a friend over to the house for one. That's 4 bucks saved right there.

Many people are feeling pinched right now and gas prices are just one of those areas. There are ways that you can cut back on spending though. I read another story about how the movie industry is thriving during our economic downturn. I am a movie buff and you know how I've been watching movies? I wait till they come out on DVD and get them from the $1 DVD rental box. When you look at how you spend money there are ways that you can change too.

Don't stop eating altogether. That could be bad. And don't cease all fun activities. Look for ways to have fun on the cheap though and for ways to make the fun things you love now even cheaper. Look at how you spend your money though and make a few small changes. They can help you breathe a bit easier.

Save that buck on movies by checking out dvds and cds at the public library. Most cities have library systems that you can browse collections and place holds online. Also you can return materials to any location, why haven't mainstream video stores figured this out. I was surprised by the selection, not the dusty lameness of yesteryear. You're already paying for this service with your tax dollars, so why not use it.

This week's poll
Many recent college grads don't know how to dress professionally for work. Have you ever thought someone in your workplace was dressed inappropriately?
Yes. I've seen co-workers in outfits that show way too much skin.
No. I work in a very relaxed environment and anything goes.
Maybe. Some clothing I've seen on the job is questionable.
